you are placed making a phone call from a cordless phone and they ask you to hold the line? What line? There is no line!! It's a cordless phone...

    There's a line from you to the person you called. Most of it travels through the electro-magnetic spectrum without being enclosed by wires, but it's still a direct line from you to them.

    The phone's dock is connected to the telephone plug, which is connected by a line. Therefore you should hold that.
