Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate upgrade?
Ok. I just pre-ordered Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate. I am currently running XP Pro and find its time for an upgrade. When i upgrade, will it copy all my apps and data or will it format the drive?
It can upgrade to vista, i just never got around to it. I meet all the hardware and software pre-requisits.
I can also upgrade to 7. I checked over and over again then called Microsoft for another opinion. Im in the green for the 7.

depending on your computer you just wasted your money.
try this if you cant upgrade to vista than you cant upgrade to 7
and yes it will format all items on hd

You can "upgrade" from XP to Windows 7 in the sense that you can purchase the cheap pre-order upgrade discs that are on sale right now.
And if your computer meets the hardware requirements, you can install Windows 7 on the XP computer.
BUT, NO you cannot upgrade from XP to Windows 7 and have your apps and data carry over. That only works when upgrading from Vista. When you "upgrade" from XP, it will entirely wipe the XP installation.
So, MS will tell you that you can "upgrade" from XP to Windows 7, but that does NOT mean that your apps and settings will carry over. They won't.
You are "in the green" to install 7. You are ***NOT*** "in the green" to upgrade in the sense of anything carrying over from your XP install.
(And for what it's worth, unless you'd have use for the BitLocker encryption or switching OS language, there's not much use for Ultimate this round.)
