Vitamin Question (Vitamin A and Beta Carotene)?

All right let me first off by thanking you for reading/answering this question.

Now I take a multi vitamin that has Vitamin A 3,600 UL (29% as Beta Carotene) Now I was wondering if I could take a beta carotene pill once a day too that has 25,000UL (100% as Beta Carotene) The only reason Im asking is Im worried about Vitamin A poisoning. No im kind of confused because my Beta Carotene bottle says it only produces Vitamin A when its needed.... So should I like take my multi Vitamin in morning and beta carotene at night??? or is taking both a risk? Im 21 going to be 22, I have 13% body fat and I have been working out (and will continue to work out ^_^) I dont smoke and Im not a drinker (ok Ill go out and drink 2-3 times a year lol wooo me i know im a dork but I kind of respect my body or try to lmao....)

So is this safe? Thanks for any help you can give me. Its greatly appreciated!!!!!

Adam D.

    Hey Adam,

Yes this is absolutely safe. You can take the beta carotene pill any time you want, even right after you take your multivitamin. The reason for this is because beta carotene is the precursor molecule to Vitamin A. Surplus beta carotene is stored as an orange colored compound in the fatty tissues of the body, and when your body needs Vitamin A, your liver converts the beta carotene into Vitamin A. You may have read somewhere previously about Vitamin A toxicity, which is good. Taking too much preformed Vitamin A (in the form of retinol or retinoic acid) can poison your liver, but you can ingest as much beta carotene as you want. There are rare cases of people who have ingested large mega-doses of beta carotene (much, much, much more than you will get with your beta carotene pill) over long periods of time because they loved to eat carrots and tomatoes every day, which are naturally high in beta carotene. They turned orange-yellow as a result of the excess beta carotene but they are not harmed in any way. Again, the danger to your liver is ingesting too much preformed Vitamin A, not beta carotene. Just make sure you don't take any Vitamin A pills in addition to your multivitamin. Stay healthy and active Adam!

I use a Mulit-Vitamin that does not have IRON..

I have a seperate PILL for IRON..

    ..beta carotene is very important..

I would suggest useing carrots and Sweet Potato's(only)..

    ..IRON comes in 2-types..low and high/dosage..actually called Therapy/I only take IRON..3-times per week/spaced out/
