I have a 4 year old shelty with BAD skin problems. hes so itchy hes chewing his hair out and hes miserable?
He's never eaten dog food and we can't get him to. I'm very worried about him, we've had to keep a muzzle on him for a few days now and half his tail is bald. We also have frontline on him right now. We do NOT want to put him to sleep, we want to fix his problem. Does anybody know what we could do to help his skin problems? When ever we take off his muzzle he knaws on his self and he wines when hes itchy. Flees cannot be THAT bad... HELP!?!??!

common sense would tell me to take your dog to a vet did you know its a criminal offense in some states not to get treatment and let your pet suffer

What do you feed on then, as this could be important if it is an allergy.
If the dog has fleas then this would be the reason, but if he doesn't then you need to look at allergies including as said above the very flea treatment you are using plus food.
If it is food then you can either go down the expensive route of finding out what it is and then they make up a vaccine for it. It can work well but is expensive --- or you try a different diet and in that case this is where raw diet really can help.

Okay so flea bath! and for the hair give him raw egg it helps the hair...i know short answer but i had a dog before many dogs believe me! give it to him 2-3 times a week and after 2 weeks if it doesnt work you HAVE to go to the vet! Okay so you put some raw egg in a bowl and let him eat it you can also put soy bean seeds in it that helps too
Hope this helps....

for at home, long oatmeal baths anda rawhide chew toy. his chewing of his skin may be anxiety. it may also be his skin is dry or he has another health defect. if its just his itching that is severe, which it sounds like it is, takehim to the vet to get cortisone shots (theyre not that expensive and they work) to stop the itch. also change his food and mix it with wet dog food (something yummy to rouse his appetite). stop putting the frontline on him too. it makes the irritation worse and is poison and some dogs take it horribly. anything that kills bugs can obviously not be safe to put on your pet. especially on his skin that doesnt wear off for a month.

What do you feed him?
Have you checked him for fleas/ticks?
Is there something new in his environment making him itch?
Best advice is not to use ANY flea shampoos this will irritate his skin more. Plus they dont work.
Take him to a vet and get some tests done.
YES, fleas can be that bad!

Allergies you are feeding him something he is allergic too. If you don't want to feed dog food go to raw diet, or get a grain free food and leave it out until he's hungry enough to eat it. And fleas can be that bad.

Whats up with these people. They know that there is something wrong with their dog and they are sitting here on yahoo answers instead of going to the vet. I wonder what goes on in peoples minds.

There's these guys called "vets", short for "veteeinarian doctors" who specialise in animal healthcare.
By not seeing one with your dog you're guilty of animal cruelty which in most places is a crime that will get the animal taken away and you fined or put in jail.

Take him to the Vet!!!!!!!!! He/she will give you a special shampoo or lotion that could help his skin problems.
