Can anyone explain to me why BET is okay, but if we did WET (White Entertainmeint Television) it is wrong or r?

every other channel is white let them have their BET it sucks anyhow

By not having WET (which by the way all but a handful of TV networks are owned by corporations that are headed and owner by White men, even BET) what could White people possibly be missing? Are White people not allowed to watch BET? Did Friends have to incorporate White in it's name to indicate that the show obviously was a sitcom whose main targeted demographic of viewers are White? I think what people such as yourself don't realize about this whole BET/WET argument is BET is called Black Entertainment Television is because it's not specifically for Black people but it primarily features Black people and entertainment common with Black culture. Do the cable and satellite companies say "Oh because you are not Black you can't get BET as part of your packet of channels." No. Therefore this argument is rehashed lameness again and again. So it's ok for TVone to exist and feature a more diverse array of Black culture than BET as long as Black is not in the name of the Channel? So would you have this much vigor and determination if the LOGO channel changed it's name to the Gay and Lesbian channel? I think not. It something about Black people having something you don't have that bothers you doesn't it? The sad fact is Black people don't even have the channel yet you still complain...

The simple answer? Their is money to be made by keeping the race card alive. The black leaders like Charley Rangel, Reverend Jesse Jackson and others of their ilk...use the race card to line their pockets. Do not fear!! Help is on the way from a totally unexpected source! Illegal Mexicans!! They have no use for the blacks and are now almost equal in voting numbers.

I would caution those of both races...the white man didn't gain the power to literally rule the world by being "Mr. Nice Guy"...I am 70 and have followed politics avidly since my teenage years. I have never seen as many "white people" so fed up and so damned mad. I am a born and bred Southerner, armed to the teeth, State's rights proponent and will not take very much more.

PS..Not one individual in my lineage on both sides EVER OWNED A DAMNED SLAVE. All were hunters, trappers, fishermen, and entrepenuers.

First of all, If MTV is a representation of white people, then I would like my own separate ethnicity.

Well most entertainment is pretty much WET so in my opinion it wouldnt even matter because its just another channel. and blacks arent considered special citizens if anything there considered the least special citizens in this society. Not very many black people play the "race card" anyway. and i doubt that ther will be a civil war, obama wouldnt let that happen. Yes this question is BS.

BET is pretty much the same thing as WET because it exists for the entertainment of white people via the exploitation of negative black stereotypes. BET is also white-owned. White people also have CMT.

Here in Aus, we just finally got an Indigenous channel that broadcasts nation wide.

Here, the indigenous population is an appaling something like 0.2% thanx to the europeans slaughtering them/driving them off cliffs/stealing generations of children without reason/attempting to breed them out.

Because of widespread ignorance (and even among some of the indigenous population thanx to the stolen generation), not many Australians could tell you names of tribes, Aboriginal activists, artists, leaders in most fields. In that way, we seem to be a very backward nation unfortunately.

So i am glad that there is a channel that is designed to cater to the indigenous population, to educate all Australians about their culture, way of life, what's important to them, the richness and diversity of the hundreds of cultures that were here 200 years ago. I think it is a great tool for reconciliation and will create more understanding and awareness. Even when the day comes when "the gap" is healed - life expectancy, incarceration, drug/substance abuse, education, poverty, health issues...i think it will remain an important and relevant tool that will teach out whole nation to be proud of our indigenous heritage and will help affirm their identities.

In the US, i am guessing that one reason might be because nearly all TV caters for white America and doesn't do alot for the identity, integrity or self-esteem of African Americans.

Btw, i am a mixed Australian with some Indigenous heritage.

America, as a white majority country has tv which caters mostly to WHITE AMERICANS. Not to Black Americans,

and not to Hispanic Americans in that case.

And the Indians have their own TV show where they play Bollywood movies all day, and they have their own award show for Indians only. Why aren't you complaining about them?

We have MTV yes, but there is not just white people on it. If we were to call it White, the whole world would be up in arms. We can have anything we want, just dont call it White. Thats just plain evil, didnt you know?

Buffalo has a radio station called WBLT, a "black" station and they can sit on there all day and make fun of white people, but, you know, its okay of course.
