Problem with computer logging me off?...?

Every time I turn on my old laptop, it shows me my background screen for 2-7 seconds and then goes to the accounts page (the page it takes you to after you log off on an account). Even though there's only one account, it keeps taking me there, and every time I click to try and log back on it shows me my background screen and then logs me off again. I have a few REALLY important files that I haven't backed up yet, so I would really appreciate it someone could tell me how to get logged on long enough to email those to myself.

(P.S.- could this be the work of a trojan, or some other virus? My McAfee went haywire yesterday so I had to manually turn off the computer to unfreeze the screen, and after I turned it back on was when the problem started.)

Please help! I really need those documents!

I usually deal with this kind of crashing by booting into Linux, however i think thats not the case with you. however i suggest you to search and get a live CD of UBUNTU 8.10 or later from anybody or you can download the live disk from ubuntu's website <www.ubuntu.com> from your friends' PC and boot from it. from there you can do your backing-up very easily. Then you can do what you want with your crashed windows :-)
