4 month old constipated need help please :)?
My little girl is four months and one week old. She has had solid stools since she was three weeks old and has always had to push it out and turns red. She never whined when pushing until the last three or four days. I would say that the consistency of her stools would be between play dough and mashed potatoes, but like I said in the last three or four days it has been rock hard little pellets and she whines and cries when trying to push it out. I tried giving her a bottle of water mid day for the last three days but that hasn't seemed to make a difference.
Is it too early to give her watered down apple juice since she hasn't had anything but plain rice and plain oats which she started on at three months.

You should try to give her an ounce of Dark Karo Syrup in four ounces of formula if you are breastfeeding, if not then put the Karo in water instead. Two of my babies were constipated very bad as infants due to the soy formula they were on and thier pediatrician advised me to do this. It worked well without any side effects. There are 2 Karo syrups though and for constipation only the dark one works. You could also try four ounces of apple juice in four ounces of water, or do the same with prune juice which most likely will work better.

My aunt just had a baby, and he was constipated and the stools he'd pass where not normal size for a newborn, they were hard and big. The doc told her to give him watered down apple juice before the bottle about 2/3 - 1/2 cup and he was around 3-5 weeks old.
Apple juice is a natural stool softener. So, I'd say if my cousin took it at 3-5 weeks then you should be ok to give some to your daughter
:) Best of luck, You feel so helpless when they're constipated it breaks your heart :(

I agree with the folks about the karo syrup. My daughter had pooping issues as an infant (starting at about 3-4 weeks old). Her pediatrician recommended 1 tsp. karo syrup (we used both light and dark and it worked the same) in 1 bottle per day. We generally went with the bedtime bottle (just another cue it's time to start settling down for the night to the babe). It worked like a charm for us! Once she was about 5 or 6 months, we switched to prune juice (1/2 juice, 1/2 water), which also worked well. Good luck!

My daughter is 4 months and my doctor told me to buy gerber baby apple prune juice. Give about 1 oz a day for a couple of days that worked for me.

No you can go to your local grocery store and get baby prune juice (any type will work, this one just works the best) and give that to her, that should really help out. They also say karo syrup just a little bit in their bottle works good too.

at a month old my doc said i could give prune juice bc it works better but i opted for karo syrup instead. 1/2 a teaspoon in a bottle twice a day did the trick. gets rid of gas too!

give that baby some grape juice- water it down just a bit, after 2 days or so, she wont have to push as hard, as her stool will be a bit softer and easier to pass thru. at 4 months she will be fine. just give her a few ounces of it a day or every other day. gudluck

You may want to check with your pediatrician. A nurse recommended I put 1 tsp of dark karo syrup in my baby's bottle when she was constipated. It worked for us....took about 3 or 4 hours to work. I think a friend of mine puts prune juice in her baby's bottle once a day to help with constipation

here is what brodys ped told me to do when he was 2 months old with constipation.
1. you can give 1 ounce of juice per month old...since she is 4 months you can give her 4 ounces per day.
2. when she is making a poopy rub her belly
3. give her a bath a TAD warmer than usual
4. [some people are against it but...] you can put a teaspoon of dark kayro in her bottle 3 times a day and she will DEFINATLY be able to poo

Whether she's breastfed or formula, I would lay off the foods and just stick with that for a couple of weeks. See if that helps her. I think she's too young for baby apple juice and prune juice, stuff like that, but they do have infant glycerin suppossitories at the drug store you can try. But the first thing I would do is call her pediatrician. The doc will know what is safe to try for her age. Good luck! Poor little thing can't be comfortable!
