What do you think is best for your child to chew on while teething?

My son just turned 6 months old and his first tooth on the bottom is coming in. It has already cut through and I was wondering if other than giving him tylenol or numbing gel or teething tablets and teething rings...what other things have you let your child chew on the help sooth their gums? He has teething rings and I put them in the fridge but they don't always last that long. The other day I had a frozen breakfast burrito in the freezer (with a plastic wrap on it) and i gave that to him and he chewed on it for the longest time. Helped keep him quit for a while! LOL! =)

Buy a mesh feeder(walmart has them) and stick frozen fruit in it, or ice cubes. Or wet a tooth brush and put that in the freezer...a very cold wash cloth can work too.

Well I wouldn't give him numbing gel because one time the side of my mouth hurt so I got some baby teething gel on it and that stuff tastes nasty!!! It made all my saliva come out and I was drooling so much. It was so gross. But I would let him use teething rings that have been in the freezer because they will stay cold longer. I would have 2-3 of those so when 1 warms up, you can just take another out without waiting for 1 to get cold again. I would also let him chew on a wet washcloth because that helps too. And if he won't stop crying, then give him some Tylenol or something. Good luck!!! :)

My 9 month old has cut 8 teeth already, and he never went for teething rings or any of that stuff. He just preferred to chew on a plain old cloth diaper. Sometimes it seemed to me as though his life depended on cramming the entire thing into his mouth, but it always helped him. He's taking a break on teething now until molars, but he still likes to chew on the corner of a cloth diaper while falling asleep or for comfort if he's upset.

We used all of these methods:

Mesh Feeder (frozen grapes are very easy to put into the feeder)

Freezable teething rings (or gel rings that can be refrigerated)

    Orajel

Tylenol (when pain is severe, ex. at night)

Try to vary up the methods and see which your baby likes best. Doctors warn against giving frozen food without a feeder because babies can choke if part of the food breaks off in their mouth.

    Good luck!

If you've ever used Orajel on yourself you know that it's not really THAT effective...moreover the baby brand of Orajel is less effective (because it's a weaker formula). And it does taste awful (it makes my son angry and he just cries more). Tylenol will be your best friend...try the orajel to get him settled down (and if he doesn't hate it) it should give the Tylenol some time to start working. Also another neat trick is to wet the corner of a washrag stick it in the freezer then let him chew on the end that's frozen.

Surprisingly enough my oldest baby i let chew on a frozen waffles he seemed to like that it can get a little messy though but it did work sometimes he would like to chew on the foot teething ring it was easy for him to hold and before to long he had all of his teeth

my great grandmother did something in our family for years she would take a old dime (copper) and place a hole in it put a string through it and place it around the babies neck to sooth the pain and i don't know how but it worked.

    good luck

Try a frozen washcloth - just get it wet and freeze it. My daughter loved this. We also used one of those mesh fresh food feeders you can get in the baby aisles - they have a mesh bag you can put fruit or other foods in. We put ice cubes or crushed ice in it and she really liked that - plus it is perfect for them to hold on their own. All the teething tablets and things seemed pretty worthless - tylenol was the best if she was really in pain. We would also just rub on her gums with a wet washcloth and that helped - of course, you have to just sit there and keep rubbing.

    Good luck!

You can always freeze a clean, wet wash cloth for him to chew on. Or if you have a mesh feeder (these are FANTASTIC!), freeze fruit or veggies and put it into the feeder for him to chew on. Just be sure that the fruits or veggies you put in the feeder have already been introduced to ensure that he is not allergic to them. Also, make sure that there aren't any small seeds that can fit through the feeder.

Frozen waffles! I used to buy eggo frozen waffles and put him in his high chair and let him get down! I have tons of pictures lol. It takes good and when a peice does come off they are already cooked and safe to eat theyre just cold and theyre mushy already from the slobber and from being frozen so my son loved them just watch to make sure he doesnt choke. it was great! my son was teething at 6 months didnt get his first tooth until 9 months. My youngest is 10 weeks and just cut his first tooth so i cant even use the waffles this time!

For my son I bought these little mesh things (you can get them for like $3 at Walmart, Babys R US etc) and you can put ice cubes in them or frozen strawberries, etc. He really liked that. I also gave him zwieback toast sticks. My son is 18mts old now but we give him sugar free popsicles (we hold him in our lap and hold the stick for him) and he LOVES them! They really seem to work. Hope that helps. Teething sucks and seems to last forever. I've also heard of people giving their children frozen waffles (never tried it myself).
