I usually just want an answer, but most people posting in this section either want emotional counseling (this isn't the place for that, by the way), or just want to listen to others agreeing with them.

It varies from question to question. Some questions I ask are meant to reduce the subject to absurdity. For example: How did the Kangaroos know to go to Australia when they left Noah's Ark? Since marsupials are only found in that part of the world, it would imply that the ark story is not sufficient to explain why the species in the world are placed where they are.

Some questions about consciousness are asked to find out what other people think about a complex subject. This is not a place where you are going to get expert answers most of the time.

Yes to all of the above! Normally, I would talk to my hubby about almost anything, but sometimes it's nice to get more then one opinion or view point on something. It's interesting to see how other people think and how many different ways situations can be resolved. It's nice to have an outside opinion as well, someone who doesn't know you, isn't going to judge you, or have a bias opinion one way or another.

Personally I like to ask a question and get ideas different and yet near my one. That probably sounds odd, right?

I like to solidify my beliefs on some things or learn about others.

For example with religion I have a firmly fixed idea of what I believe I don't need someone trying to convert my beliefs but I may be curious about additional info. or get a different point of view.

Yeah like every smart person who's ever gone on YA hasn't thought about asking this question. The only difference is I was smart enough not to ask because the answer is already too obvious.

Sometimes validation but most of the time a true and honest answer/opinion.

Just people's opinions. I hardly ever post something here that I can just find on google in 10 seconds. So it's usually to see what people think, and why.

The questions I posted at Yahoo are to elevate awareness, inform and provoke thought.

I seek knowledge when asking a question being ignorant is no way to go through life

Because man is a lonely creature, he seeks all of the above.
