Do you correct people's wording, grammar, and/or spelling on the internet?

Well, I don't exactly care for anyone else's writing but my own. I usually just correct myself if I spell something wrong. Especially on MSN, AIM, or anything that has to do with IM(ing)...etc.

I'm one of those people who can't stand making mistakes when it comes to grammar. :)

No. However, I often do not answer questions because I just can't figure out what the person is talking about.

When you combine bad grammar, incorrect spelling, and missing punctuation, you just get a hodgepodge of words that don't mean anything.

Not as long as I understand what they are saying. I just hope that their errors are merely a result of typing fast and that is not how they write all the time. Sometimes it is very important to have proper spelling and grammar, but most internet input is not crucial. I just wish they they also realize that if they pay good attention to their internet rambling, it is good practice for when it really counts. Practice makes perfect.

I am always tempted because I'm a grammar freak. However, I know that if I do, the people will only get mad, so I usually hold back. It really bothers me that so few bother with correct grammar and spelling these days. Is it really so hard?

No - despite that fact that incorrect spelling and grammar really irk me, make me want to roll my eyes and say something, I always remind myself that those people are either too careless to listen to me in the ten seconds we are going to have an exchange anyway, or that it was just an innocent typo on their part. So I spare both parties the inevitable frustration by ignoring them.

I don't so much mind dropping apostrophes and punctuation marks or writing all lowercase, as completely incorrect word usage and obnoxious spelling.

The thing that annoys me the most, for example, is people not being able to differentiate between "their", "they're" and "there".

No. I corrected my sister's spelling once in a letter and she told me I was lucky she was writing, so I learned not to correct people's spelling. If it wasn't for spell check, I can't spell so well either. If it really bothers me I just go on to the next question.

  • I have warned people of the grammer police, and another about the wording inciting peoples anger and not being positive.

But I can read all the Q&A here pretty well so - no I am not part of the grammar police.

No way as i think it's not right for people to criticize folks on their spelling and usually they say like hey dummy didn't you ever learn to spell. As long as i and others can understand the question ' then it's all good.People should consider others feeling about things like this too.

If it's a minor typo, it's best not bring it up. If someone literally can't write to the point I can't understand them, I tend to ignore them.

If someone makes a substantive error regularly, I might bring it up in a polite way. For example, dogs are bred, not bread (unless you are hoping to get white or wheat).

Only if I am really not sure what they mean, I might write back saying "did you mean______?", other than that, I don't correct anyone on the internet.
