Diet and fitness recommendations?

Ok so im female, 5'6 and weigh around 145lb. I want to drop a good 20lb and get back in shape. Ive never really done much exercises and don't particularly enjoy most of it. Im looking into getting a bike, which will help.

I just wondered if any1 has any tips for getting started. Any particular diets which you find work and exercises which i can build up from which are somewhat enjoyable. I have an 8 year old son, and while he is not overweight, it would be nice if i could do some of the exercises with him, just to keep him fit and active too.

Well a good exercise routine you can do with your kid is to take him to a football/soccer pitch and do this workout.

10 x 40 yard sprints (make in fun - start in strange postions, lying on your back etc.)

5x shuttle runs (get some objects, tennis balls are great and place them at equal distances across the pitch - run to the first and bring it back, run to 2nd and bring it back, keep going till you have collected them all.)

Play a game (This is yours to play with, find an active sport or game you could do together - if you are stuck for one just mark out an area and play tag fo 15 mins
