how do you become a make up artist?

I attended the MUD school for make up artists in New York. It gives you the base to start do this job and also it makes you get an idea of what you'll be asked to do. There are some packages such as make up+hair and some more. You won't know what people will ask you to do once you get out of school. For example sometimes people ask me to do the air over make up.

A school is the base then a little bit of passion and interest won't do any harm!

then go out and get a job at a department store and hopefully in some time you get big and do make up for models

You need to build up a portfolio of your ideas and work then apply to some collages that do courses in Make-up, to study properly- then the World is your Oyster!!

Do make-up ideas on your friends and take pictures for your portfolio, also do coloured sketches of faces with your make up ideas on them, to show the prep work for the finished photo.
