safe alternative to raw hides for a power chewer dog but won't ruin my carpet?

Our dogs lay on the living room carpet and chew chew chew. Our american bulldog is a power chewer, but he goes through raw hides in about a day, and i mean the large bone shaped ones. i know raw hide isn't very good for them, so i want an alternative. suggestions like bones filled with peanut butter or dog food are good for outside, but i am looking for something for inside.

Nylabone makes some great "bones" for strong chewers (all of their products are not for big chewers, but many are great-check their website for recommendations)...the Galileo is one of their stronger ones). My dogs LOVE them. You can drill holes in them and fill with cheese or peanut butter for outside, too.

Kongs are good for some dogs, but i would test the dogs patience and laziness first by using a cheaper alternative like a plastic bottle with treats inside before buying one and wasting money. Nylabones are good too but i suggest the durable type instead of healthy edibles. And there are bully sticks which are a much safer alternative. And various raw bones are good too. my dog just swallowed a chicken bone today in pieces when i wasn't looking so i'm hoping it comes out safely :(

Nylabones, Bully Sticks, and Pig's Ears are good edible alternatives. Also, just good old fashion normal bone with cheese, treats, thick bouillon, or, as you said, peanut butter inside.

For a chew toy, go with the reputable, ever-lasting Kong filled with any of the above foods

Get him natural bones. They sell them at pet stores and most grocery stores too, in the pet aisle. Certain bones are softer than others and won't last as long, so read the labels. And you have to monitor chewing with these as well, because pieces can be broken off, but odds are it will take him a LOT longer than the dentabone ;) If he has the bone for so long that it gets dried out (months) it should be tossed, because it can splinter and the sharp pieces can puncture his insides if swallowed. Hooves are great too, they last a long time and are extremely hard to break (my boxers have never broken one), and they aren't nearly as gross as the cooked natural bones. The bones are very greasy when you first buy them, but the dogs go nuts for em, and they're usually "clean" within a few hours ;)

raw hides arnt good for them because it can cause an obstruction in their stomach or instestional system. i give my dog busy bones. they can stain your carpet but i lay a blanket down for my dog to lay on as she chews. another thing (not a bone) but you can buy a rubber kong and fill with peanut butter. it will not make a mess and takes my dog a while to finish.

We get split knuckle bones for our dogs. They love them to bits. And they last for a long time. Get the ones with meat on them and they will take hours stripping it off. Also marrow bones boiled, then once cooled filled with peanut butter or something else and frozen.

Go to you grocery store and ask the butcher for some beef marrow bones. Feed them raw, they clean the teeth naturally and last forever!

Bully sticks are one of the healthiest chews and they are longer lasting. Tendons, and knuckle bones are also safe and last awhile.
