Gauge wires for amp and subs?

Recently I baught:

2 10" Fosgate Punch P2 Subs (2 ohms, Dual Voice, 250 rms each/500 rms pair)

Kicker ZX500.1 Mono Amp

To replace my old sound system in the car. Currently I have standard 16 gauge speaker wire going to my old subs and 10 gauge power wires for my old amp.

My question is... with the amp/subs I baught, what gauge wires would I need from amp to sub, and from battery to amp so that I can get the maximum power from my amp and subs without damaging them? or am I fine with the wires I currently have?

Thanks alot!

The 16 gauge speaker wire from your amp to sub is fine but you will need 8 gauge wire for wiring up your amp.

    Good Luck!!!

The current passing through the wires will cause the wires to heat up if not sufficient guage. Think of the millions of little electrons pushing and shoving back and forth, all this action causes friction on a molecular level and of course we all know friction equals heat. In a bigger guage wire there is more room for the same number of electons. It's really that simple. Use as heavy a guage speaker wire that you can. You will have no signal loss and little heat.

Amp to Subs = 12 gauge or (10 gauge if your amp and speaker terminals will allow it)

Battery to Amp = 4 gauge

quick and simple. 0/1 guage for the amp and ground wire. and 8 guage for speaker wire. you cant damage anything with thicker wire just get better results.
