Do you have an explanation for why I have such a strong distaste for public display of religion?

I am an accepting person who is calm on the inside and out most of the time. But, whenever I see someone with Bible verses as their favorite quotes on Facebook, Myspace, or wherever and/or if they talk about how they are saved, etc, whether or not I know the person or not I instantly judge them as someone I do not want to be around and I just think "Yuck". I just found it funny how it gets me so ruffled (when it is so hard to do so). I know I feel as though people should keep it to themselves, but it is striking how strongly I react in my mind.

I was like you a few years ago, but it was because I used to go to a school where I had nuns as teachers. They made me so furious! I still don't like nuns, but fortunately I got my faith back recently. Those stupid nuns kept saying all those things like 'being saved' etc... and they would just piss me off! They would tell us how evil we were if we wouldn't believe etc...

Maybe you had an experience like mine with extremely religious people. Or maybe with religious people who are trying hard to convince you to believe, and never stop. I have a lot of faith, but they still piss me off.

Overly religious people tend to assert their religion on others by assuming they're right (most of the time). That knowledge that they seem to posses in knowing their right is a tad bit annoying. It's almost like talking to someone who thinks they're better than you. As an atheist I always openly admit I do not know what is right.

You probably had a bad experience as child with this kind of religion that you're suppressed?

Don't let it bother you. Go by their pages as quickly as you can. Remember, they are fanatics. You cannot do anything against them unless you become one of them. Most of all, remember that many of us, included me, share your feelings.
