I want to get Vista so I would be able to play, is it worth it to get rid of Windows XP?
I barely can do anything on the XP to keep me amused... [Except Msn].
To play alot of things, I can reformat my computer and get vista. But, is it worth it?

don't listen to that mumbo jumbo and let someone who knows a little more than these noobs answer your question. okay?
understand first that viruses are created for all OS (windows, mac, and even linux) but since windows is more widely used, it equals more fun for script kiddies to exploit the vulnerabilities in windows than any other OS. and when they do write viruses for windows, mac and etc. they don't just target a specific code named OS like vista. the same virus that will nail an improperly secured xp will also nail an improperly secured windows 2k. the only viruses you're saved from are ones meant to exploit vulnerabilities in win 2k that have since been patched in xp and so on. so ultimatley vista is no more vulnerable than any other windows os if not actually less vulnerable.
lastly, the os is just fine. i have a new vista 2.6ghz dual core and it's way more stabel then my xp on a 3ghz single core. software hits different stages even before release. even the anti virus you use was tested multiple ways. first by the people who design and script it (called the alpha stage). then by another stage where they have ordinary people download and test it (called the beta stage) once it has passed the alpha stage. once it passes beta testing (windows 7 has just passed that stage, moving on to next stage-->) it goes into release candidate stage. this is where it is still only a potential product and where they fix any bugs reported by users who tested the product and ensure that there are no known show stopper class bugs. then on to RTM stage (or Realease To Market) where you can get it in the store already on your computer or in a boxed copy. by the time it hits the store, it is virtually bugless compared to when it was first designed. be it there may still be a problem here or there, there really aren't many that are user noticeable. the designers have fixed even most non user noticeable bugs. so even the first windows vista release was just fine..
so why do so many people think its unstable? that's an easy answer. they did the same thing you want to do BEFORE making sure they fully understand the meaning of minimum requirements. if your computer just barely exceeds the minimum requirements, you can dang sure use vista, but it will crash if you don't tune it to run on YOUR computer. see while mine is new and came with vista and all its specs greatly esceed the minimum requirements and vista runs perfect, yours may not. just check to see that it does esceed min requirements and if so, how much? if it's only by a little, then windows can help. all you gotta do is go into an admin account (if not already on one) and turn off alot of services. most aren't needed anyways. for instance the windows aero service. it takes up a ton of ram, 100 mb of ram at its top usage. and at its lowest its somewhere around 30-50mb. all it does, is make the taskbar, start menu, and tops of windows see through and pretty. vista can function without that for sure and still look and run fine. another one to disable (for security) is the server service. its a vulnerability and you don't need that unless you run a shared printer or home network file sharing. for an extended list that will help greatly (i know cus i disabled alot of unnecessary services myself) go to www.speedyvista.com and go to the services link or services guide link. they won't leave you in the dark, they explain it so even the computer illiterate can understand, so whether you are an experienced user or a noob they'll be there for you. just get vista and install it, and disable all unwanted and unnecessary services and it should run just fine. to be honest i thought my comp was way faster with vista, before i ran the elimination of services. and now, well.. it can open any app before you can finish blinking.. and i'm not kidding...
so good luck with your venture and happy trails !!!!
