How do I write a story? Like, what is the format on how to write one? Where do I start?

I want to write a fantasy story to be exact. But I don't exactly know how to start writing one. I'm looking to write something like the ones you read in books. For example: Harry Potter or Eragon or R.L. Stein or Stephen King kind of story. With talking/dialog, etc. Is there a site I can access to follow a guideline on the how-to?

Update:

I'm not trying to write a book. I forgot to mention that this is for english class and we're supposed to write a fantasy fiction story. Lol. I just need to know how to write one with dialog and everything. I know it's not like a formal essay.

There are no how-to's when it comes to writing fiction. Story telling is not painting by numbers, or a template where you just fill in the blanks.

You want to write a fantasy? Well then, use your imagination. But use your reason and logic as well. Make your fantasy world seem real and true, consistent and coherent. (Frank Herbert does this wonderfully in his science-fiction novel "Dune".)

Don't try to imitate anyone else. Everybody right now is trying to come up with the next Harry Potter or Bella and Edward.

Ask yourself this question: What creatures of your imagination has no one else written about? What would you like to see in a fantasy novel or film? What hunger of yours has not yet been satiated?

You may spin a plot first, a sequence of events. Or you may think of interesting characters and a situation in which to put them. You may have an unusual turn of phrase that would make a good title, or you may hear snatches of dialogue in your head that make you want to take dictation, as it were.

Write what your heart tells you to write, and when you have finished, go back and read it over ... only this time, use your head as well.

The most important part of writing a story is GETTING STARTED -- Good Luck!

Oh how I wish I could be a Stephen King or a J. K. Rowling, but no I'm just a (your name).

Most people are afraid of the dark......

Only in your Imagination could you possibly.....

Do you are one of the people who dislike doing work for somebody else? You want the freedom to earn you very own funds, make more income, or earn a passive cash flow, men and women who want to go about an honest way of generating money on-line
