Flame tetra laying eggs?
I have a flame tetra--not sure if it's male or female--with what looks like a small piece of styrofoam extruding from the anal area. Can't seem to find a good guideline to tell if this is a fish laying eggs, or if it's been eviscerated, or if it's carrying some sort of weird styrofoam plague. Swimming and other behavior seems normal. Have removed fish from the community tank for the moment until we can figure SOMETHING out. HELP!

Tetras who are laying eggs do not normally have white things poking out of them. They spawn together among the plants, the girls dropping eggs and the boys swimming past the eggs and dropping sperm on them. More on the breeding behavior of flame tetras here: http://www.thekrib.com/Fish/tetras.html
Anyway, no, the white thing is not due to breeding behavior. You could take a picture of it so we could see the abnormality.
