  • Flame tetra laying eggs?

I have a flame tetra--not sure if it's male or female--with what looks like a small piece of styrofoam extruding from the anal area. Can't seem to find a good guideline to tell if this is a fish laying eggs, or if it's been eviscerated, or if it's carrying some sort of weird styrofoam plague. Swimming and other behavior seems normal. Have removed fish from the community tank for the moment until we can figure SOMETHING out. HELP!

  • 30 Gallon Tank Stocking Question?

have a 30 gallon hex tank (2 ft. tall.) In the tank I currently have 10 neon tetras, 5 glo fish, 5 black skirt tetras, 2 swordtails, 2 yo yo loaches, and an african butterfly.

We would like to have a bigger school of neons and maybe a few more glo fish, but don't want to risk overstocking the tank.

My question: can we get more neons and glo fish, and if so, how many?

  • Cichlid acting weird?

In my cichlid tank we have a large castle for them to hide in and such. The cichlid that has pretty much taken residence in the castle since day 1 seems to have been ousted by the male of one of our male/female pairs. Fish #2 is, in fact, pretty much keeping EVERYONE outside the castle. (The female of that pair is hanging out underneath where the filter flows into the tank, as she always does, acting like it's her own personal jacuzzi.) My husband got too close to the tank, and it copped attitude with HIM. Should we be expecting the pitter patter of little fins sometime soon, or what? This is our first cichlid tank, and we've only had it since summer, so we don't know exactly how cichlids are supposed to behave.

  • Adding fish soon?

I have a 60-gallon freshwater tank that currently contains 9 fairly small fish (4 dwarf gouramis, 3 cory cats, 2 platies, 4 regular gouramis) that have been added in over a matter of a few weeks. We are planning to order some live fish (12, to be exact, about 25 inches of new fish--mostly dwarf gouramis-- all told) from what I believe to be a fairly reputable pet supply company (Drs Foster and Smith). We had, of course, wanted to order them a few at a time, but because the shipping is next day air, shipping is almost $35. This makes us prefer to order them all at once. How terrible would it be to add all 12 at once? I know it wouldn't be ideal to do so, but can it be done with reasonably minimal stress on the fish? If not, should I set my 10-gallon back up for a day or two and put 1/2 the fish in at one time, 1/2 a few days later? If I'm going to spend $$$ ordering fish, I'd prefer them to live. Thanks in advance for answering!

  • iPod Classic Problem?

I downloaded an episode of a TV show and watched it on my brand new 80 gb iPod Classic yesterday. When I went to look for it again today, it was gone. Poof. Vanished. iTunes tells me that I can't download it again, even though it's on my iTunes. Where did it go? I don't think I deleted it, unless I somehow did it accidentally. Now I'm afraid to watch anything I've downloaded. What the heck??

  • Should I get him a tombstone?

A friend of mine was killed in an accident 12 years ago (his funeral was actually 12 years ago today), and every year around this time (except 2), I have driven to the town where he's buried to visit him. While a certain delay in getting a tombstone is absolutely expected, 12 years seems a bit much. After the first 2 or 3 years, the metal marker from the funeral home had faded to nothing, so I got him another. A few years after that, another. About 4 years ago, another (this one pretty good quality, glass in the front, the paper inside laminated to protect it from the elements.) Today when I got there, all that was left of my good-quality marker was the laminated paper part stuck to some wire.

His parents, as far as I know, are still living. His sister, as far as I know, is still living. But 12 years later, nothing. While I would obviously check into the legality of the situation first, would it be appropriate for a non-family member to purchase an inexpensive marker?

  • Can't remember the name of this book?

All I can remember is that at least part of the book has to do with some sort of afterlife city where people live until people on earth forget them, and then they're gone. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

  • Need some curses?

A dear friend of mine, who has had nothing but romantic bad luck for a while, just got her heart ripped out--again--by a guy who really seemed like he was a good one. She is still too hurt and in love with him, so I am cursing him for her every so often. I'm mostly looking for funny stuff. The two I've used so far are "May his crotch become infested with fleas, and his arms be too short to scratch," and "May the desert winds blow a pi*sed off scorpion up his undershorts." I'm not looking for anything involving death, dismemberment, mangling, or anything equally horrible or possible. I'm looking for funny things to make her laugh and feel better. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Do fit flops actually work, or is it yet another gimmick to get me to spend my hard earned cash?

I've been reading today about the new British footwear craze called "Fit Flops," a flip-flop type shoe that supposedly helps to tone the legs and buttocks simply by being worn while walking. The articles tend to be more of the women's magazine type that simply describe the shoe and what it's alleged to do, rather than being any sort of testimonial as to if they work or not. I was wondering if anyone on Yahoo Answers had used a pair of these and knew whether or not they are a "miracle shoe" or just a really freaking expensive pair of flip-flops.

  • CIDP and ALS?

My older brother has CIDP. My mother seems to be convinced that CIDP and ALS are the same disease, but I am quite positive that--although they are in the same family of diseases--they are not the same disease. Who's right, me or my mom?

  • Oh dear! Honeybees at my hummingbird feeder?

Is there anything to be done about the honeybees that have found my hummingbird feeder? I don't particularly want to hunt down their nest and destroy the whole hive, as honeybees seem to be mysteriously disappearing. Any suggestions?

  • For those who no longer get Easter baskets?

Does anyone miss getting Easter baskets as much as I do? Obviously I could go out and get a chocolate bunny for myself and such; it's just not the same that way. Agree? Disagree?

I have a very healthy redbud that is about 4 years old and as tall as my head. At what point can I expect it to start putting on blooms in the spring rather than just leafing out?

  • What kind of tree do I have?

A mystery tree has sprouted near my patio. It has thorns, so I thought it might be a honey locust tree, but it doesn't have compound leaves, so that can't be it. Any thoughts about trees that would grow in Arkansas, have single leaves, and thorns?

  • Looking for a WWII DVD?

Several months ago I saw a program on BBC America (I THINK) about French women during WWII who had relationships with Nazi soldiers. I can't remember title, I've searched various websites (BBC America, History Channel, A&E) and found nothing that sounds right. Did ANYONE out there see that show besides me? If so, do you remember what it was called?

  • Aquarium Changing Confusion?

We have 2 aquariums, a 26 gallon and a 10 gallon, that we have had for almost 3 months. Before we ever started stocking them with fish, we read the book recommended by the guy at the pet store (published by the Animal Planet network), which recommended a 50% water change weekly. Thus, that's what we've been doing. We test the water religiously and the levels of everything have remained in ideal ranges; our aquariums look great, the fish have terrific colors and generally seem very healthy and frisky. Yesterday, however, when the guy at the pet store found out we were doing this, he told us that we were not giving the biologicals time to set up, and that we should only change 10% out of each aquarium once a month. That seems like a LONG time to let fish waste build up at the bottom of the tank. Thus, my husband and I decided to bring it to Yahoo and see what everyone else has to say.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this!

  • Can I freeze leftover sour cream?

Once again, I find that I am cooking a dish that requires sour cream. That happens so seldom that after I've dipped out the cup or 1/2 cup or whatever the recipe calls for, the rest sits in the fridge so long I have to throw it out. I think it's a long shot, but can I freeze it and have it still be usable when I thaw it out?
