Can't remember the name of this book?
All I can remember is that at least part of the book has to do with some sort of afterlife city where people live until people on earth forget them, and then they're gone. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
The Bible? Are you people high? Yeah, right, people die and go to Heaven and then completely vanish when people on Earth have forgotten all about them. And yes, I AM a geek who reads lots of things. It helps me to spell words like "your."

The Brief history of the dead
Kevin Brockmeier
"Adult/High School–In a not-so-distant future, a deadly virus kills off every human on Earth, except for Laura Byrd, a wildlife specialist on an expedition to the South Pole. Readers quickly learn that the dead move on to another life in a fantastic city on another plane of existence; there, they live out a second life free from aging and disease until every person who knew them on Earth dies."

it sound like the city of ember. it is about a city that is falling abart and all that. the people of sparks is when the city if ember goes above ground (the city of ember is underground) and meets the people of sparks. the people above earth used to know all about that but then it turned into a myth and then the ember people came and then the sparks people found out that the meber people was the myth.

if you go into 'barnes and noble' and choose books about the afterlife, you may recognize one of the titles.
