My dogs leg is swollen/infected?
2 of my dogs got in a fight, the one dog got a puncture wound to his leg, I put perxiode on it and cleaned it when I seen he was bleeding and thought he would be fine, the next day I noticed where the wound is its swollen all in that area. I've been continuing to clean it and putting antibacterial ointment on it but the swelling hasnt gone down much. What should I do?
Just to let the people know that are telling me to take him to the vet, YES I know this I'm not ignorant, its called times are tough and money is tight so Im on here to get some suggestions as to what i could do myself to try to get the swelling down if that possible before I have to resort to spending money I dont have. This isnt something that has happened awhile ago its been 2days today being the 2nd.

Really should go to a vet but if your like me and trying to save a buck and do it yourself. Give it a day more. I had two dogs get into a fight. At first it did not look bad. I cleaned it, but it looked swollen the next couple of days. After a few days the swelling went down and it never got infected. This injury was in the ear though. I would be cautious of an injury to a leg. Use your best judgement.
ADD: I agree the best course of action is to go to the vet. But during these tough economic times people cannot always afford $50 to walk through the vet's door. Plus the additional money for the meds they will prescribe People often use these types of boards to save money and do things themselves. If the owner can afford a vet today, go. If not, keep it clean and keep an eye on it. If it is infected buck up the money and go.

Puncture wounds can be nasty.
Deep wounds can also have some skin heal over an infection. It may need to be drained or even opened. There are infections that can thrive without oxygen & run through the entire system.
Your animal likely is in need of antibiotics & does need to be seen by a vet.

There must have been something down in the puncture wound & the top skin is healing but what ever was left behind is festering. It could be something that needs antibiotics or it could be something that needs to be cleaned out. Either way you need to take him to the Vet.

Thats amazing! I here so many dog saving stories all the time. Dogs rock and are truley gifts from god. I think its privilege to own a dog. People that abuse them are sick and will get what they deserve in the end. Legit:: Oh yes!! My brother came over the other night and was play punching me. Oh noo he should not have touched me! Taco flew off the couch jumped on him and right smack bit him in the nose!!! He has never ever bit anyone in his life! But he saw my brother as a threat so he went after him to "save" me. They all may be toy dogs but i actually feel very safe with them :)

here's a wild idea...take it to the vet before the infection gets too bad and the dog loses the leg!
Then again you should have done that as soon as the attack was over!

The simple answer is that he will need anti-biotics and the sooner the better.
Therefore he HAS to see a vet to prescribe those.

Why do I have to keep telling people this? TAKE YOUR DOG TO THE VET!

Pick up the phone and call the vet.
ADD: David M - "save a buck"? Are you serious? If that was you who was bitten and it swelled up would you save a buck then?
