When I start my laptop up, it just stays on the loading windows screen - why?

It asks me how to start it... when I start it in safe mode, the screen turns black with white commands and does nothing. When I start it normal, it just stays on that loading page for windows...

Update:

If I run a recovery, will I lose all of my pictures?? I have a ton of priceless ones of my mom and don't have the originals.

It may not be a virus. It sounds more like a corrupt file that's trying to load with windows. Files get corrupt if you open them and dont close them properly.

Start Windows in safe mode and go to system restore and start windows with a previously known good version. If you have installed anything since then, it will be lost but at least you can restart Windows.

Do a system cleanup after you get it running

    Cheers

Alot of cases the subject stems from the start up courses the laptop has to laod or now and back there replaced right into a subject with the start up application altogether and is lacking a code line to allow you to end the start up technique, maximum cases as tech can pass in on secure Mode and take out the bothered courses or sparkling the setup codes.

The problem could be an installed service - start Windows in 'Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt' and do some searching...

Personally, I think you should switch to a Linux-based OS though.

You have a virus, or your laptop is just slow.

    Get it checked.
