doing bad on college placement test?
I've heard that some people purposely do bad on the placement exam so they will get easier classes. I'm worried enough about adjusting to college life,so it might not be in my best interest to be working my brain full throttle right off the bad. Is this a bad idea?

The reason why people go to college is to learn by challenging themselves. If they go to college just so they can slack off, then they are just wasting their time.
Take the placement exams honestly and get into the classes that are at the right level for you. Don't cheat yourself out of a good education if you or you parents are paying for it. Lots of students are in a lot of financial trouble after getting out of college and it's not worth doing years worth of work to pay for something that they didn't learn from.
Don't worry about adjusting to college life. It is a really easy transition because it'll be easy to make friends with the people in your classes/dorm and they will all be willing to help you out and other freshmen will be adjusting to college life with you.

You don't have to purposely fail the placement exam to get into a lower class. In college, you get to choose your own classes but you can't take a higher class without taking and passing the prerequisite. You can however take a lower class if you think you aren't up to the challenge. The only worry about adjusting to college life is the the number of credits/classes that students take. Some students take too many credits and end up being swamped their first year. Others find the amount of free time available too overwhelming for them and end up failing also because they don't know how to manage/budget their time.
I hope you realize that you need to take a certain number of higher level courses in order to graduate college. The only way you can take those classes is if you take the prerequsite courses first. These types of classes are like ladder steps. You need to take the one below in order to take the higher one. If you take a low level class, it might take you longer to take the next class or even graduate. So keep that in mind.
You are going to a new environment with higher standards and expectations. Why would you go backwards and take easier classes or the same classes in high school? You're supposed to challenge yourself as you go up a higher level.

Do your best on the placement test. If you don't score high enough, you might be put in remedial classes where you don't earn college credit. If you can test into a higher level, do it, you don't want to be bored in a lower level class or put in a remedial level.
