How can I get better at math and science?
Hi there, I'm going to be a senior in High School soon and my math and science skills aren't so great *I'm not saying I'm stupid either". Back when I was in Elementary School. I really liked Science and I liked Astronomy, etc. But I sucked at it. When I was a Junior. I kept making bad grades in science I guess it was my lack of laziness in class. "I need to stop that habit" Well back to the subject.
I would like to learn more Math too. But I suck at it as well. I wanted to get into learning a programming language and I heard its hard and it involves allot of math. Ever since childhood I wanted to be a Game Designer but I doubt that will ever happen. What should I do if I want to get my grades up in Science and Math before I graduate my Senior year?
My teachers hardly teached that much Math because they thought I wouldn't need it along time ago. And it makes me mad as well. You may laugh at this but I am in Special Ed and I'm only in it for Math and Science and a few other things as well. I'm just a person whos wanting to learn more. I want to go to College and Study Game Design but I don't know if that will ever happen.
Can anyone give me any advice, tips to be more smarter than I already am? I really like computers and all that stuff but don't know what to do. I don't want to be treated like a vermin for the rest of my life. I also don't want to be a lazy bum as well. Please help. I want to get back to my old self. I got moved up to a advanced class in Elementary School because I was smart, But now, I don't know what happened :(.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Math is like an active sport.
You have to participate to win.
Do silly mind games that get your mind to be more active. Do them as often as possible. Try things such as showering with your eyes close or walking around your room without the lights. Your mind needs to be constantly active to be able to pin point specific problems and grasp the entire solution in math.
Math teachers don't hate you when they give you several of the same problems as homework. They understand that you need practice.
So, my advice: practice, practice, practice.
Also, study the way you test. If you test in a cool classroom with no music, study that way. Get your bedroom to be the same temperature and don't listen to music.
Chewing gum works too, peppermint is the best because it has the strongest aroma. Smells activate memory because of the location of those senses in your brain.
Practice, practice, practice and location, location, location.

When you read it, do it like you really are interested in it. What I mean is this: Sometimes when I get "burned out" or lazy, I will also study lazy, even though I spend the same amount of time, I'm not actively applying the material. Do you get what I'm saying? Sometimes its just a matter of study, but other times its a real struggle. You just have to fight through it and maybe pop an M&M to sate youre urges.
Based on your writing, it doesn't look like youre stupid. Doing poorly in HS doesnt mean youre stupid either. You dont have to get into a major university, you can get into a Jr. College and prove your dedication there and transfer later.
Let me tell you a personal story, maybe it will help you. I did very poorly in grade school. I once made a semester average of a 12 in "english" class. But, I got out and went into homeschooling for the next 2 years, got my GED, and received an $18,000 scholarship from an audition for a guitar performance program. The point is you get credit for being young and that means you have time to fix your mistakes and become an engineer, or a tradesman, or whatever is practical for you.
Finally, if you want to get good at math then buy a book and read it and understand it. DO NOT only burn through the sample problems and assume you understand it because you got the correct answers. If you want to be good, you have to read it slowly and carefully until it makes sence in your head.

Thinking it all over, I think you're weak in strength but not at your heart. So, all you need to do now is to start acting on these subjects you like. Don't give up, like Naruto said, especially not your goal. If you can dream it, you can achieve it. Nothing's impossible, that's what I'd say. Well, you want to be better in both math and computer, right? So, the only advice I've got for you is to keep TRYING AND PRACTICING!
I also read that sometimes you get lazy in class, and that maybe the problem! My advice: Once you feel like getting lazy, you should remind yourself of your goal and the happiness of attaining it as well as what you have to commit to yourself right now in order to guarantee your success in the future. It is all up to you to determine for yourself!
It's true sometimes your hard efforts don't turn out good for you, so that makes you feel hopeless and think you suck at it. However, if you quit now, you'll never gain anything. Thus, just keep trying no matter how many times you fail. What's more, make note of what mistakes you did during class and examinations, find a way to change it, and try to do better next time. That's the basic step of every scholars-to-be. Well, I may be writing too much, and I hope you will get what you want! Good future!

Well, the best advice Practice, practice and practice is already given.
I will suggest you at the same time try to help other weaker students, by solving their problems in Mathe's and science. Problems which are difficult for you are difficult for many others, when you learn to solve them yourself and than teach others how to solve them will give you an experts confidence, and it will be a matter of your prestige, which will force you to keep at bar.
I am a retired Civil Engineer, In 4th grade I passed with rank of 25 out of 30 students, where 25 students passed. But in engineering I was awarded a medal from the president of India.

My son has purely all started his A'point classes alongside with Maths, Chemistry and Physics. As of right this moment, September 2008, In his Maths type of 20 scholars, there are purely 2 male scholars (18 female) in his Chemistry type of 18 purely 5 are adult males yet in his Physics type of 25 there are 21 adult males. In his 12 months in college the GCSE effects suitable grades have been almost ALL females in ALL subjects. that is very almost the precise opposite photograph of once you and that i improve up Twig. Now, they replaced the math and technological know-how classes for my daughter's 12 months, she is one tutorial 12 months in the back of. In maths they are turning out to be rid of the assessed coursework modules. Coursework frequently advantages women people. it's going to be exciting to do yet another picture and ask this question back next 12 months to work out if this very unscientific illustration exhibits up interior the numbers doing the comparable subjects in her first week of faculty.
