If Hamas rockets hit civilian targets then they are labelled terrorists. When Israel targets civilians....?

....they are described as fighting terror. When even Israel's leading military analyst Zeev Schiff says, "the Israeli Army has always struck civilian populations, purposely and consciously...the Army, he said, has never distinguished civilian from military targets...but purposely attacked civilian targets", then why does this double standard survive? Surely the deliberate targeting of civilians is terrorism whether you are an Arab or a Jew?

Update:

stinky joe; you really are a knuckle dragger aren't you? To put it in terms even you can understand, Hamas is a social movement, not just an armed militia. Hamas cannot be wiped out without massacring half a million Palestinians. If Israel succeeds in killing Hamas's senior leaders, a new generation, more radical than the present, will swiftly replace them. Hamas is a fact of life. It is not going away, and it will not raise the white flag regardless of how many casualties it suffers. The policy of assassinating the leadership just ratchets up their determination to not give in.

Update 2:

bored underemployed capitalist; if Operation Cast Lead was a counter strike, why was it planned 6 months in advance? Also, let's have some perspective-there have been 18 Israelis killed by the terrorist Qassam rocket attacks from Gaza, which are outrageous and utterly wrong. Operation Cast Lead alone killed around 1400 people in Gaza, with around 200 in the first few minutes.

Update 3:

with the exception of joe (not stinky joe), NOT ONE answer has addressed the question. Why is Israel's terrorism acceptable but that of Hamas isn't?

Update 4:

texas patriot (sorry, I can't even utter those words without pissing myself laughing); you obviously didn't read the quote from Zeev Schiff in my question. Also, even if leaflets were dropped-where exactly are the civilians supposed to go? They are fenced in on all sides. Where would you run to in the event of a mass attack by planes & tanks?

Update 5:

texas patriot; Oscar Wilde once commented that patriotism is the virtue of the vicious

Also, I've been to your little state, and found it to be one small town after another. That mentality pervades the entire state, and it is 100% guns 'n' Bibles. Squeal, piggy.

forget it man, there will always be double standards against Arabs and Muslims, and the zionist controlled-world media will always portray muslims (even if their children are slaughtered by a sophisticated army) as terrorists, they will say that Palestinians are sending their children to die, they will say Hamas is using their ppl as human shields (even though Hamas was established for the purpose of saving and freeing their ppl from occupation) and the biggest problem is THERE'S NO WAY ON EARTH U CAN DELIVER THIS MESSAGE SINCE ZIONISTS ARE CONTROLLING MEDIA AND EVERYTHING IN USA AND THE WHOLE WORLD !

u can sense the double standards even from the answers here, ALL the ones who are answering here know that Israel was established by force with the help from the western countries in 1948 and yet, they want the arabs to "act" nice with the ppl who stole their land and made massacres there (search sabra and shatilla massacre, der yaseen massacre, qaryat abu kbeer massacre, abushusha massacre , qarayar sasa massacre and the list goes on)......dont ask a bunch of ppl who are bigots, brainwashed and with the side of the devil about our issues

Israel goes out of their way to assure civilians are not targeted. They even drop leaflets telling the civilian population to leave. But when Hamas, being the cowards they are, use civilians as shields these thing will happen.

    edit-

I tell you what "Timmy" why don't you let me know the next time you are in the State of Texas and I would be happy to meet you and discuss this issue. I know the Patriot probably makes you sick because you have no idea what it means to be a Patriot. You are nothing more than a leftist liberal spewing what you hear in the leftist media.

They are not fenced in and if they are it's because Hamas has them fenced in.

How do you discern civilians from hamas? They don't wear uniforms, and they hide their rocket launchers in civilian areas. It's not like they have a properly regimented army who live on army bases.

I thought the Israeli maneuver was a counter strike, after weeks of hamas lobbing rockets at random targets. Hamas is a typical arab militia, shooting from behind the burqua of their women cattle.

What about the other double standard? Hamas can harass Israel for weeks with no one caring. But if Israel retaliates, they have to endure this garbage from the whole world? Why is it accepted for the arabs to commit random violence, but condemned for Israel to respond?

EDIT: That simply proves the Israeli's are better shots, and can plan ahead for the obvious. No comment on the rest huh?

If Palestinians wanted peace they would stop the sucide bombings, rocket attacks, and sniper fire. Until then they will live in squalor and ignorance. Their leaders have pocketed billions of dollars in aid and bought weapons. Israel has become the ultimate scapegoat for any Islamic leader. Leftists began the anti- semitic rants after the 1967 war. The Soviets were angry that their new military equipment could not stop the inevitable defeat of the Arab armies. So Moscow began condemming ZIonism. Remember the UN passed the resolution equating Zionism with racism? It is Biblical that in the end times Israel will be hated by many Nations. Read this article.

It all depends what side you're on. Either way someones labled a terrorist. We don't call Isreal terrorist because they are our allies. Isreal is just tired of being picked on, that's why they have to be so brutal, especially since they're surrounded by people that hate them. I love Isreal, it has to be one of the most beautiful laid back (believe it or not) places I've ever visited. Isreal only retaliates. Theres more going on over there that you hear about. They don't just randomly attack people. I worked with their military for a while and they have reasons why they do what they do. In war everyones a target and sadly civilians end up in the cross fire whether it's intentional or not.

A short historical reminder. This time we won’t say a word about Muslims that butcher Muslims. We got used to it. The Muslims, especially in the eyes of the Left, are the retarded kids of the world. From them there is no need to demand responsibility, morale, international law. They are allowed.

This time we will deal with the West. We won’t head as far as the bombing of Dresden. We’ll go to recent history. It happened in 1999. Just 7 years ago. Milosevic irritated the Free World when he tried to take control of Kosovo. NATO started bombing. Following is an incomplete list of the injuries. Just of civilian ones.

On April 12th – 12 killed in a bombing of a civilian train; on April 14th – 70 refugees are killed in a “hunt after warriors”. NATO forces admit that they find it hard to estimate the number of casualties; Apri 27th – 16 civilians are killed. Two missiles diverted from their course; April 28th – A stray missile reaches a peaceful neighborhood in Sophia, capital of Bulgaria. May 1st – 27 killed in a bombing of a bus on a bridge in Belgrade. According to other claims 47 were killed. All of them civilians; May

6th – 15 civilians are killed in the town of Nis in Yugoslavia; on May 7th – the Chinese embassy in Belgrade is erroneously bombed. 3 civilians were killed; May 13th – at least 100 civilians are killed in the village of Korisa. Burnt bodies of kids are presented in the world media. NATO’s spokesman announces that the bombings were against “legitimate military targets”. May 19th – NATO airplanes are bombing the Belgrade hospital. At least 3 patients end their lives; May 30th – 11 civilians are killed in the bombing of a bridge. They were on their way to the local market. On the same day the NATO bombers manage to bomb an old age home, causing the death of 20 of its residents; on May 31st another 11 civilians are killed in a bombing.

NATO, by the way, spread leaflets telling the civilians that bridges are about to be bombed. Obviously that didn’t help. Does this reminds something to somebody? There was a general sorrow for hurting innocents, but nobody dreamt of a cease fire. The bombings continued. It took months. Not days or weeks. The determination proved itself. Milosovic was forced to accept the international terms.

We’ve been in this situation before

Let’s continue to November 2004. The Ivory Coast Air Force attacked rebel concentrations. Since when does anybody count black people at all? That’s it, to the bombers’ bad luck 9 French were killed by accident. Soldiers. Not civilians. The French were angry. So angry that they wiped out the entire Ivory Coat Air Force and took control of the country’s airport. And that was only the beginning. When it was the natives’ turn to get angry, the French were sure to enforce order in a very aggressive way, which included killing 27 protesters.

Now let’s go back and discuss the proportions. Milosovic didn’t announce that he intends to destroy all of Europe. The Ivory Coast didn’t announce that its intention is to destroy France. And yet, the reactions of NATO and French were harsh and hard. The Security Council did not call for a cease fire. Au contraire. It was obvious that it’s necessary to get rid of the bad guy in the story. It took a lot of time. In the end he had to bend.

We should be sorry for every innocent that gets hurt. The question is whether somebody has invented a formula in which it’s possible to battle evil without hurting the innocents. In NATO they didn’t find that formula. In France neither. When we get to Israel the rules are being changed. Israel is required to restrain itself. Why? After all Nasrallah is much more dangerous than Milosovic. The Hezbollah is not a guerilla organization. It’s an organization that possesses long-range missiles. In normal countries the state has an army. In the case of Lebanon, Hezbollah has a state. The Hezbollah controls Lebanon and Iran controls the Hezbollah. And also develops nuclear weapons, and also announces that it wants to wipe Israel off the map.

These are just declarations, the members of the Evil Front will tell us, the stupidity and reconciliation, those signed on various petitions. If we will just turn over the second cheek, Ahmandinejad and Nasrallah will send us flowers.

We’ve been in this situation before. We have the right to prevent it from recurring.

    What is your question?

Does Isreal know that it is killing civilians? Yes. Do they feel justified in doing so? Yes. Is Hamas aware that their actions will bring retaliation which will result in civilians are being killed? Yes. Is the death of civilians a good thing? No. Could the two sides reach a compromise that would prevent it? Yes. Should they? Yes. Will they? Who knows?

You claimed earlier that Iran didn't support terrorism.

NOW you suddenly know about Hamas.

    You claim to be English.

    Sorry. Not buying.

Hamas is made of yellow RATS who hide among the civilian population. If the Palestinians are stupid enough to tolerate these murderous clowns, they desrve whatever Israel dishes out.

Edit: A knuckle dragger would be someone who keeps doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome, like Hamas and its supporters.

You admit that they attack Israel while hiding among civilians, and you admit that they won't quit.

THAT is why they should be EXTERMINATED and without regard to civilian casualties.

  • 1 decade ago

Why is it okay for hamas to hide among civilians?

Why is it okay for muslims to threaten nuking israel.

How come little Israel wiped up during the 6-day war. my goodness you muslims must be a lazy, stupid bunch. Or.. is it that the Jews have something going for them?

    Hmmmmm.
