id have to say they can be the same but the controllers were much diffrent the jaguar has like 30 buttons since i own both consoles id have to say it depends on what you like a billion buttons on your controller and most of em are usless or a controller with not many buttons but is hard to use so its really up to the user

  • Well comparing these two systems is like comparing apples to oranges.

Both of them had very advanced hardware for their time, however, most of it was never utilized properly.

The Atari Jaguar was technically superior to the 3DO, but it's full potential was never reached because 3rd party companies had difficulties programming for it. Atari chose to make use of a complex multiple processing unit instead of one simple CPU. As a result, most of the games on the jaguar would not surpass the games of its competitors. However, a handful of jaguar games can be considered fairly decent (graphics, audio, gameplay).

The 3DO was pretty much the first 32-bit cd gaming console on the market, so it's specs, although impressive, could not push that much power. Yet unlike the Jaguar, the 3DO was exceptionally easy to program for because it used a familiar CPU to the 3rd party companies. However, due to it's high retail price (over $600!), 3rd party support shied away from the 3DO. Therefore leaving it with only a few worth-while titles.

Basically, the Jaguar could have been superior to the 3DO, but it was limited due to poor hardware choices. Ultimately the 3DO seemed to have been better.

If you look at 3DO games such as Alone in the Dark, Foes of Ali, and the Need for Speed, you will realize that the Jaguar never pulled something like that off.

So my vote goes for the 3DO. The games on that system were much more fun anyway (minus the FMV's).

    It depended on your taste.

The Jaguar had games far ahead of their time, though. They were thinking outside of the box. Like I played a game with real video clips ( real people) where you were commiting crimes, then trying to outrun the police. Isn't there a very long game series that sounds similar to that? You know there is XD Beat people up, steal their car,..

Though all the games on Jaguar were Buggy,.. it was ahead of it's time. So Jaguar wins.

It's just sad certain things on 3DO weren't popular enough to survive. Since those died and never resurfaced,.. 3DO loses.
