Why is religion and worshipping God always taken so seriously? Aren't we all going to die, anyway?

People are most concerned about the afterlife because they believe that this life is just a very short part of the whole thing.

I personally think you should enjoy what you got here because nobody has returned from the afterlife to tell us it is awesome over there haha,

Religious people fear hell, they do good things because of fear of going to hell and not as a genuine good deed.

If God is so good, why would he let anyone go to hell?

They really aren't always taken seriously. Yes we are all going to die but the fuss is all about what dying really is.

Atheists feel that they are strong, because they don't fear oblivion, whereas they feel that believers are weak because they need to give themselves a reason to fear death less, even though they never stop fearing it.

(An athiest who fears death is really screwed. He has nothing to make him feel better.)

A truly devout Christian does not fear death, nor does he shun life; he aims to live a full, good life in the service of Christ, and go to a reward that he realizes he cannot really imagine, when he dies.

Serious bit over. Truth is, it is funny; pretty much anything can be, I don't think that religion would be any less funny if it were all true, or all false, or something somewhere in between.

As No-one knows anything for sure its all just opinionated. Therefore, it all gets misconstrued.

In spirit of the situation I will throw my opinionated-pence in.

Religion now, is a misconstrued. It started out as people just wanting to understand the world. They had little knowledge of the universe so they tried to make reason. They couldn't understand so they made an assumption (of sorts) that there was a 'higher power' at play.

Now its just power hungry people brainwashing the vulnerable, making them fear 'god'.

After all its 'Submit to Allah's will' - not let Allah in, not love Allah.

Its well known (and highly debated) that the original bible was destroyed and replaced with the one read today.

Its also said that a man went all around America, recording the lives, traditions and overall feel of the native Americans. It was said that this man was killed and had all of his documents, all of his research, his life work destroyed by the church. Why? it conflicted with their interests.

and to answer your question, im guessing people need something to do in their spare time, so why not worship some guy? its a hellva boredom killer.

It`s because most people find it unbearable to think no God exists. The idea seem so bleak and hopeless and inexplicable, that they just need to believe.

To be fair, you can`t blame them.

It's good to take a relationship seriously when you plan on spending a lot of time with someone.
