Is there any way how I can see what's on my past work record?

I heard that my future potential employers can get my whole past work history just based on my social security number. If this is true, then is there any way how I can get a hold of this information?

anything in your personnel file for any one job, stays there when you leave - as for work history based on ss#, I've never heard of being able to do that, sounds like it would violate privacy laws - at worst, they may be able to find out the employers you worked for in any one year, but I seriously doubt they can just plug your SS# into a computer and get a list of employers for the last 10 yrs and even if they could, all it would be is names and addresses of those companies
