Power transformers, 50/60 Hz, 300w?

Lamination's are for the reduction of eddy current.

Occasionally I encounter transformers with all the lamination's welded together.

When is this necessary?

What is the purpose?

Does-it not defeat the purpose of lamination's?

The weld bead across the lamination is only structural, to hold the them together. The cross sectional area of the weld is negligible compared with the total area of the laminations. The laminations are still preventing eddy currents through 99.9+% of the core.

I guess the weld is only on the outer surface, but the lamination is intact inside the body of the conductor? The weld would be to resist thermal expansion in a heavily used transformer, or perhaps to evenly redistribute the heat - iron is not the most ductile of materials! The magnetic flux would not be resisted since it's unidirectional on each side of the conductor.

Transformers are rated in VA no longer watts. you are able to desire to cases the amps by employing the volts to get VA. those numbers ought to be on the nameplate alongside with the watts. in many cases a similar or extra effective VA rated transformer is positive yet evaluate going slightly extra effective if the commencing up load is intense which includes automobiles. The smaller form transformers do no longer enable any extra of their layout. Having reported all of the above, the 100VA is maximum probable ok for any 60w merchandise considering the fact that its a good share larger.
