Why do Filipino people always ask if I'm Filipina?
Last week the clerk at Burger King asked if I was Filipina. Today the clerk at WalMart asked if I was Filipina. This happens ALL the time. I am Asian-American and tan really easily, so I look like an islander. I'm cool with it completely - that's who I am.
My question is why do Filipino people always ask that question after "hello". If I were to say "yes", then what? Is it just somehow important to know who's Filipino? What's the deal?

Alot of people do that... its a cultural thing. I agree with Ta- Zu =)

Probably because they don't see a lot of Filipinas in the states. Also, FIlipinos tend to take their pride in their culture to the extreme from what I've noticed, so finding out that there's another FIlipina in town wouldn't really be taken indifferently to Filipinos, is this is the case.

People just like to know there's more "like them", provided the people asking are Filipino though.
Or it's just going to bug said person if they don't know what you are. xD

maybe they're just curious to know what ethnicity you are because you may look a little filipino but they are not sure.

It's part of the culture. They like to know who is family or can be considered family. Get use to it. I am by now. hehe

Black people always ask if I'm mixed. I say no, I'm just a light skin black folk. I just think, maybe I look mixed, that's all.
