Underappreciated and accused of fishing for complements?

I do the lion’s share of cooking, and I try not to make a lot of the same things all the time. I have 2 very finicky eaters in my family, my husband and my 17 year old daughter. When I cook I want feedback so I know what they will want me to cook again, or stay away from… However, they don’t offer I always end up asking. Or saying, I really like this, I think I like it better than the last time. Or, I’m not really happy with the way it turned out this time… blah blah blah…. No matter what I say, they tell me I am just trying to milk complements out of them. Is it wrong that I talk about my cooking, or ask them if they like it?

Why dont you try to make a chart? A meal chart..kinda like a dinner rating card with suggestions. This way if they dont want to talk about your cooking and give you any ideas maybe you can make it fun and let them rate your cooking with a chart from 1-5 dislike to love it! then put a little comment space at the end and ask "What was it missing if anything? or What would you add to this meal?"etc. Try that and see if it helps spark a conversation at the dinner table. Or maybe even get a jar and set it on the table by it have little note pad and on the jar write dinner suggestions..they can write down something and drop it in the jar. hope this helps.

I'm sorry, but your family are very rude. If you cook them a meal it is just plain good manners to comment if you like it! My family, (3 boys, 18, 16, and 9) Always tell me if they have enjoyed a meal.......And if they didn't, so I don't give it to them again : )
