create text message on g1?

ok. I can not figure how to just send a text on my g1 if the person is not in my contacts list.

I just want to be able to sometimes send a simple text message to someone that is not in my list.

I can not find the option anywhere. Please help.

I do not want to add the number to my contacts list.

Update 2:

Where do I go to open up a text if the number is not in my contact list?

    Just in the to place, enter in the phone number using the keyboard numbers.

    its jus like if u have the contac n ur phone

    but instead of starting to type there name u type the number of the person u want tto text

    the # will not b saved in ur phone either unless u save it urself

    so wen u go 2 create a new message n the " 'to' space " jus type in there # using the keyboard #s

    ok all you just got to do is create a new message and then press the numbers in the number keys on your qwerty keyboard.
