when you pull the lever it tilts a stem under the large diaphragm
this allows it to open , and flush , then as it moves bach in position it closes,
replace the large diaphragm, with the same # [type]

same thing william said execpt there is a small hole in the diaphram that allows water to go to the top of diaphram which pushes the diaphram back on the seat and shuts the water off if the diaphram is still in good shape you can take a piece of small wire and reopen the hole they get clogged up and will let water keep running
