5 is common to both terms:

    5(3x + 1)

That's as far as you can go!

    15x + 5

first, look for GCF(greatest common factor). 5 is the GCF of this expression, so divide the whole expression by 5:

    15x/5 + 5/5

    3x + 1

it cannot be factored anymore, so 3x + 1 is your answer.

Take greatest common factor out (5), then leave the rest in parentheses. You get 5(3x+1)

Looking at this, it is clear that 5 goes into 5 and it also goes into 15. Therefore, you simply factor the 5 out to get:

    5(3x + 1)

I agree with the above answers. Remember that in factoring, you always look for the common factor first, before trying other methods. The common factor can be a number, a letter (variable) or a number/variable combination.

1)find greatest common factor or GCF which would be 5

2)factor it (what goes into 15 and 5 five times?)

    5(3x+1)

*hope directions made sense : )

easy way is to find the gcf which is 5. so 5 will go on the outside

    5( 3x + 1) is the answer
