Do unemployment benefits really exist?
My father worked for the same company, over 19 years. The Unemployment office hasn't decided on his eligibility for two months, but now wants to have him do some sort of interview and workshop. Is this how the process goes? If he does get hired by a company that he's had interviews with, will he still be able to collect benefits on the months he's tried to apply for?
I should have added, the company had layoffs and the boss hasn't disputed anything. In fact he told my father that it would be months before any jobs came in.

something is wrong
yes unemployment benefits exist usually take 2 weeks to go in effect.
your fathers company may be disputing your fathers claim so the office will need to call and interview your dad to see if he was fired or if he quit. if he quit he'll not get it..
most likely if he gets a job he will not get the money while he was waiting
