    Good question.

I thin a lot of people don't know the sport that well and want to see two guys standing toe to toe, swinging for the fences.

    JSatt basically said it.

Like he said people are getting new to the sport so they dont understand how beautiful ground grappling is and how giving someone a gogoplata could be way more exciting than 2guys just swinging for a KO. Ive been watching UFC ever since the no hold bars day, even love watching judo, bjj, karata, TKD, and greco-roman wrestling tournaments on tv. Martial Arts has been a huge part in me and my families life so just watching a MMA match is great. Seems now people are just wanting 2 fighters standing up and exchanging punches till some1 drops(seems more of a boxing and a street brawl fight to me). That could be fun at time but people that know MA and MMA love watching matches go to the ground aswell.

I partially agree with the folks above. A lot of newer / inexperienced "fans" just don't understand the complexities of a solid ground game, but to be honest there have been a handful of times that I get tired of watching guys grind it out on the ground. When used effectively and as part of a strategy, it can be awe inspiring, but when a guy just lays and prays or is a one trick pony then it becomes boring.

As of late refs have been getting a lot better at standing up stalled fighters that won't try to progress or finish a fight on the ground.

They're old fashioned and believe that kicking someone in the legs or beating them to a pulp when on the ground is dirty fighting. We know it's true combat that draws true blood on the ground or on their feet.Usually martial artists who just do forms and don't spar along with unskilled fighters feel that way about ground and pound mainly.

the sport is still growing in north america and in other parts of the world so it's expected so many casual fans have no clue whats going in

this is not japan so the the western culture still has it locked in their mind that boxing is the only real forming of fighting and if you really want to fight you have to stand and throw punches

in time i truly believe the sport will get to a point where you wont see that anymore, but i think it will be many many many years before it's finally accepted by the majority of people
