9.5 week old baby straining and crying.?
My 9.5 week old baby daughter strains and cries but only manages to pass wind and hasn't had a bowel movement since Monday (normal, loose and runny and not hard or firm). Previous to that she pooped again on Friday and this was because I'd been to the Drs who'd given me some lactulose syrup. Before the visit she hadn't had a bowel movement for 4 days and was in apparent discomfort, straining and crying with the legs going..
Is this constipation or has she been misdiagnosed and has anyone here experienced this with their baby. Because the poop she's been producing has been normal looking and not solid I don't know whether she is constipated or not.
She feeds well otherwise and is eclusively breastfed.

It might be something in your diet. I exclusively breastfeed too. My baby was the same way, she would fart all the time & wouldn't poop for 3 or 4 days at a time. I was starting to think she was colicie. I was going through Mylicon gas drops like crazy, so my daughter's dr had me stop drinking cows milk. He said my daughter was sensitive to the proteins in the milk. It took about 2 wks for it to get out of my system. Since I stopped drinking milk she has been like a completely different baby. She's 12 wks now & has bowel movements every day & the gas is almost completely gone. You might try that, it's worth a try. Hope that helps.

All babies strain quite a bit...they have to build up the muscles they use to pass bowel movements. My son will strain and strain and strain just to fart too :) You will know that there is a problem if his bowels are really hard or dried out. It can be really confusing for babies to wonder why they are straining so much. My little guy had a really rough time and whenever he goes a really long time I mean more than 2 hours of the fussing and grunting and straining I usually help him out because I can't stand to see him strain so bad...I would take his temp rectally or use a baby suppository. But now that he's 9 weeks old nature is starting to take it's course and every day it gets better and better. I also started giving him 1 oz prune or prune apple juice with 1 oz of water (per doctors instructions) every day when he was 6 weeks old and I noticed to took about 10 days to really get into his system and help but now that he has that every day he is getting better and better!!! Good luck with your baby boy =D <3

My baby had the same issue at 9 weeks old. She'd been breast fed up until she was seven weeks then we started supplementing with formula because I had to have surgery. Anyway, when she was 9 weeks old she went four days without a BM. I called my doctor and the nurse told me its not uncommon for babies to go up to ten days without a bowel movement. However, if they're straining she recommended giving her an ounce of prune juice for every four ounces of breast milk/formula. So I did, and it worked like a charm.
She also said to try putting my daughter in a warm bath and stimulating her rectum (rubbing small circles around her anus with the tip of your finger). I tried that, but it just made my daughter angry.
My daughter's first BM after four days was pretty solid, but after that they were extremely runny. I only had to do one ounce of prune juice.
Perhaps that will work for you. Good luck!

Constipation is properly defined as difficult, irregular and/or infrequent bowel movements - so, judging from the gaps between doodoos, she's constipated. Usual answer (the safest): put a baby-size glycerine suppository in her, it'll make her do a smelly in 5-15 minutes.

She has constipation by the sound of it. Trapped wind/colic is going to make her draw her legs up & she's going to be in discomfort. I'd take her back to the doc's to be honest & see what they say. As she is breastfed I'd be eating plenty of fruit & veg as this will help her.

Im a 19 yr old boy, but if i was a baby hears what i thinks wrong with me, your baby needs to excersise somehow.
Try and get the baby to pick things up, to clap, to walk.. Basically try and tire your baby out. Trust me.
