Who is to blame? (serious question)?

Somebody leaves a Sharpie permanent marker in their pocket. Somebody else does the laundry, but fails to check pockets.

The entire load is ruined, whose fault is it?

The person who actually does the laundry is responsible for checking the pockets prior to loading the washer.

Oh, and it's "finders keepers", btw.

75% the person who left the sharpie in the pocket

25% for the person who didn't notice the sharpie

But if your Mom does the laundry it is all your fault.

The idiot who left the pen in their pocket. It's not my job to check other people's pockets. We have to take some responsibility for our own belongings.
