Small Business idea, but not sure what I need to do to get started?

I'm a full time college student, and I'm having trouble finding a job, so I had the idea to start some kind of a small business that I can do at home, and on my own time. I'm very creative so I had the idea to create unique greeting cards for people I know at a cheaper rate than cards that you can buy at Hallmark or other places. I know pretty much what I need to do to advertise, and to reach out to potential customers, the problem is, I'm not sure what to do legally. Like since I would making income, I would need to file taxes right? Do I need a small business license??? I'm really not sure what kind of permission I need to get, and from where. Any help is really appreciated! I'm at a total loss! Thank you so much in advance!

You will definitely need a business license and a sales tax license from your state (if you have sales tax). In some states, these are the same document and in other states they are separate.

You could operate as a sole proprietor, all you would have to do is fill a DBA (doing business as) if you want to use a name for your business. This is generally done at the county level.

Incorporating your business is a good idea. For this type of business, an LLC would probably be your best choice. The paperwork is easier than most college assignments, so check with your state's Secretary of State's website and file the paperwork yourself if you choose to create an LLC.

Your taxes would be reported as self-employment income on your normal income tax return (you don't have to file a separate business income tax return as a single member LLC or as a sole proprietor).

Your college may have some resources for entrepreneurs (ask in the business department) that can also be of help.

I am in the process of trying numerous work at home opportunities. The one I found to be the most straight forward and user friendly is the one where I'm being privately coached by an online multi-millionaire. Are you interested? Try the link below
