I could narrow down a list even further if you had given a little more criteria such as, car, truck, or SUV, 2 door or 4 door, luxury? performance? etc. But here is a small list of cars that are both good on gas mileage and have either great or better than average reliability. For $5,000 the year of the certain make/model will differ. Honda Civic Honda Accord Honda CRX Honda Prelude Toyota Corolla Toyota Camry Toyota Celica Nissan Sentra Nissan Altima Nissan Maxima Ford Escort ZX2 Nissan 240SX Mitsubishi Eclipse Acura Integra Toyota Tacoma Ford Ranger Toyota 4Runner Honda CRV
- mccoybluesLv 71 decade agoYou should look for a low mileage, well maintained small sedan. Something that has one owner and is in very good condition for the age of the car. No more than six to eight years old. Any make or model is fine as long as it meets those requirements. It can be a Dodge or a BMW, a Chevy or a Audi, Honda or Mitsubishi it doesn't matter as long as the car is in great mechanical shape has been well taken care of and still looks good. In other words, in that price range CONDITION is the most important thing to look for, not the name on the grille.
