why is "women must stay quiet in church" not relevant today ..but "gays are evil" is relevant today?

women are not to speak in church, they are not to teach men, nor be in any authority over a man, they are to submit to their husbands in ALL things

1 Corinthians 11

1 Corinthians 14:34-36

Ephesians 5:22-24

Colossians 3:18

women are not to wear jewelry, nor braided hair, nor fancy clothes and they should be like Sarah who called her husband "Lord"

1 Peter 3:1-7

1 Timothy 2:11-15

its obvious, to me, these were customs of their time and geography.

today we see woman supervisors, woman CEOs , women pastors, woman heads of household, women professors, etc

so why are the above NT passages ignored by almost all American Christians... yet many of these same Christians site the SAME new testament against gays?

Update:

Proud Republican : "different roles"? the bible gives the reason...its because God CURSED all women, because of Eve.

..read those passages i listed

It is because people of religious pick and choose what is convenient for there time period. If it was not for Women suffrage it would likely be that way today. People that still believe in such fables are only keeping society back.

The same reason religious faiths had slaves and it is called the DOCTRINE OF CONVENIENCE or just being a HYPOCRITE/

Nothing else has to be said. You are right on, I know, I have 7 years of college education in this area, it is all just a copy of old stories from other ancient cultures, proven, and put in a nice little package called a book or bible and is irrelevant. That is why it is not used properly, there is no real anything behind the words except the value each person decides to put on it.

Paul is just saying that women have different roles in the church. It has nothing to do with inferiority. You are reading way to much into those passages. God does not see women as inferior to men in any way.

And when you see a woman pastor, stay away. THAT is a against God's law. Like I said, God meant for men and women to play different roles.

Husbands are the head of the household in God's eyes. God doesn't say "Wives - you must do everything your husband tells you to do, or else!" He instructs them to willingly submit themselves to their husbands, and commit to them lovingly. To not fight with them, but to let their actions in Christ show their husbands when they are doing wrong. He then instructs the husband to love his wife as he loves himself.

EDIT: Yeah I've read those passages. God made Eve from Adam. Woman came from man. God "cursed" women with a painful childbirth. But that has nothing to do with why women can't be leaders over a church. BY THE WAY, God has no problem with women being Sunday-school teachers, or anything like that, just not leaders over an entire congregation.

And when Paul refers to jewelry and hair, etc., he's referencing outward appearance when he's talking about women being godly. He says to not let her looks be the only thing pleasing to the eye, let her good spirit and Christ-like manner to be the big factor. TOTALLY misreading everything there, friend.

It's called cherry picking your religion to suit your present wishes. Besides, without a scapegoat to hate and revile, there wouldn't be enough cohesion to hold the religious together.

Women are to remain quiet when a male prophet is speaking in church. It was true then and it is true today, just as all scripture is.
