My car keeps over heating and we've tried everything?

I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra GXE and it keeps over heating. The first problem was about a year ago..it over heated and we put more coolant in and it was fine, for a year. Now it seems like every day we need to do something so it won't over heat. I carry three gallons of water in my car for just in case!! We have flushed the radiator, changed the thermostat, even bought a new radiator cap! but still we have issues with over heating! I live in Florida, and yes it is like 100 deg. in the afternoon, but why can't I run my a/c and drive around without worry of having to pull over and sit on the side of the road for an hour?

    A few possible explanations:

There is a problem with the electric cooling fans. There should be two colling fans, and one of them only operates when the A/C is running. If it doesn't kick on you'll have chronic overheating when using the A/C.

Second possibility (not as likely, given the circumstances) the radiator is clogged up with corrosion. If this is the issue the only good solution is a new radiator.

Third, and most likely, there could be an air pocket trapped inside the engine. It's possible the air got in there when you did the radiator flush. To check this out, remove the thermostat housing when the engine is completely cold. If you don't see any antifreeze you should pour some into the opening until it overflows, that will fill the engine block with coolant. Then replace the thermostat and housing and top off the radiator and overflow tank.

Water pumps leak when they wear out. Water can be lost through a bad head gasket or a cracked head, a bad hose, heaer core. I'd check the water pump first. Feel around under its shaft housing, behind its pulley if you can get to it. Wet fingers= leak. Crusty, flakey deposits= leak. Also, make sure the radiator fans run.

Try removing the thermostat for a day or two. If it helps then don't put it back in. I've had the same problem before and it worked for me

check the front side of your radiator, making sure it isnt plugged, if it is plugged then air cannot flow across it, making your car overheat
