isn't this forum for religion and spirituality why is it only full of none religious people?

don't they have their own forum to discuss science and the rest of the stuff?

Update:

actually i knew they will be up in arm when they see this question, how true!

"Actually there are also a lot of Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, Wiccans and Hindus here as well as Jews, Jehovahs Witnesses and Mormons" this is right and i would love to hear from them too

    Three points.

1/ It depends on your definition of "religious". I've seen Zealots suggest banning anyone not from their personal Xian Sect - even falsely reporting answers trying to get other's accounts deleted.

2/ Atheists have a right to be here and answer questions about Atheism (some stay for the fun). If people don't want Atheists here maybe they ought to stop asking questions about them...

3/ Finally - FTR I'm a Spiritual person - just not mainstream Spiritual.

The Simpsons aren't real?! Why did I spend an hour and a half in Springfield a couple of summers ago? We had to have gone there, since we left the house and we were there, really. Weren't we?

Define "religious people". Are you referring to those who weekly warm the pew and do the daily prayers, show up at the major holidays, put their kids through baptism (or the equivalent), First Communion (or the equivalent), confirmation (or the equivalent), and then not come back until their kid gets married, other than the funerals, weddings and major holidays and basically look good to the other congregants, while they really don't care or truly live the life? (Or, one who just goes through the motions.)

Or are you referring to somebody who goes to all of the above and volunteers, not only in the church but the community (faith and non-faith based charities), because they truly believe and live the life?

(I also personally believe that one can have strong faith and live it, but not necessarily warm the pew on a weekly basis.)

Are you also implying that God and faith and religion have no place in science? That is a great argument for those who think that religion and faith have no scientific basis (which I believe it does.)

However, some of the ones who are on here truly are curious and questions, regardless of whether or not they believe, go to services, volunteer in both church and community, etc. I've have met atheists who had better morals and charitable contributions (physical and monetary) than some who say believe.

If there was a separate forum for the "science and the rest of the stuff" would that mean believers would not be "allowed" to enter? If believers didn't allow non-believers in here, what would it say about the different faiths? (When did Jesus, in any of the canonical Gospels, say that you don't believe, you do X, Y, Z, so I'm not going to heal you, help you, etc?)

ETA: I have come on here, seen a question, an answer to a question, or even answered a question and have had my faith/beliefs challenged and grow.

Also, while I'm far from being a fundie, the only way one would know, in a basic conversation with me, that I believe in God, is when I would mention my husband's occupation. (A pastor.) I know what it is like to feel as though faith is being shoved down my throat and I don't care for it and I believe that is not the way to share it with others.

I think you quite probably have confused "non-religious" with "people who do not believe as I do".

I consider myself to be very religious and spiritual, but I am certainly not a follower of a god. In fact I refuse being called either theist or atheist. I believe that it is possible that spiritual entities such as gods do exist. I just don't think they are relevant to my doing my best at being a good person, and they sure as fu&k did not write any books.

As such I don't see why anyone should waste time and energy trying to please some external deity that they do not know anything about. Better you know yourself, be a good person, treat others with kindness and compassion, be in control of your actions and cravings, release your grasping and be peaceful. Any god who does not respect that, I want no part of their heaven.

It's somewhat to be expected when there are so many questions addressed to or discussing atheists.

Also, what makes you think all non-religious folk share an interest in science (or anything else)? Having one thing in common does not make a bunch of random people a group.

Besides which, atheism and agnosticism are valid religious positions. Why shouldn't they contribute intelligently to discussions of the matter?

In fact most of the people don't like to talk against their ancients beliefs . Religion is the heritage of their ancients. In most countries you see they only teach their own ancients religion in the school to their children's for example when a kid was born in a islamic country this kid from the first day of his/her life is a muslim because that's what his/her parents want when he/she grow up and reach to puberty its time for he/she to choose his /her way but its impossible because a apostate should be killed in Islam ,i haven't seen in a school they teach all religion and a kid have authority to choose his/her way

So Atheists can't talk about religion?

Is there some special spell that magically makes our computer crashes everytime we attempt to answer religious questions? Does our brain go blank when thinking about how best to answer a religious question, especially if it was directed at us.

  • I guess not. I guess it could be because this forum is open to the general public lol athiest or not.But what i've noticed is that people that don't beileve love trying to prove to us that there isn't a God,but yea. I knew a guy that used to be an athiest on YA! and he had a NDE,and he went to hell and saw things..so now he beileves in God and is a Christian now. I guess it takes something like that to happen to them to prove that there is a God. And actaully, because of the athiests on here, when I was 13, I had hard times beileving in God,but now, no one can tell me there isn't because I KNOW there is. (i'm almost 15 now.)This particular religion forum is a horrible one for young people who are trying to decipher their religion to go on because it causes doubt and grief.

Why is the Cats section full of people!?

Addendum: woodswalker - "i completely agree. it only took a few minutes of being in this section to confirm my beliefs that the atheists, who've always accused christians of forcing their beliefs on others, are basically doing the same thing but in a much broader, more insulting way. they get a kick out of going on here and taking shots at religious folks."

Yes, asserting our right to participate in an open forum is "forcing [our] beliefs on others".

Because, see, we're here trying to pass laws denying other people their Constitutional rights, and trying to get the government to endorse our religion, and stuff...

Open discussion and dissenting views obviously = "Help, help, I'm being repressed!" Is your Christian Persecution Complex flaring up this morning or something?
