has anyone ever made you feel like a bad mother in public?
I don't feel like I've done a lot of things to 'screw up,' but when I do it in public it's the worst...
there's a huge public market in my town and the other day I brought my baby to it to get some fresh fruits and vegetables. I have a moby wrap and I always take him in that. I was just walking along and he was happy and alert and awake and all of the sudden this vendor stops me and starts screaming at me to look at his leg. I thought she was talking about him being in a carrier because I've gotten some comments and looks before on it because lots of babies are in strollers normally... but I looked and his leg was purple from the sling! I had been adjusting it because it got twisted and the circulation in his leg got cut off :( it wasn't for that long because I had just started adjusting it and he wasn't making a fuss at all, but this lady was so weird about it.
she just screamed at me and I saw it and I took him out and she kept saying, 'why didn't you know, mommy didn't know that, mommy didn't know!' it was so awful, I felt horrible for doing that to my son and then this woman is screaming in public at me. I just left, I was so upset.
anyways, have you ever gotten yelled at in public regarding your baby? how'd you handle it?
you women are so nice. really. you made me feel better, haha.
to me, crunchy means natural, hippie, eco, alternative... you get my drift :) I've heard people say that it means dirty though, lol. I think it's regional.

Good grief, was the woman simple? He wasn't in pain so as you said it wasn't long, and he would have started fussing when it was a problem. My gosh, screaming never helps anyone, poor you!

the best answer I have for this one is that there will always be those people who criticize and give you strange looks when your child is in public with you don't worry about it its not as if you were trying to injure your baby yes people have made comments about my daughter she hates her car seat and she will scream when I go shopping with her if I take to long I was in the check out line at wal mart the other day with her and she had had enough of that horrible torture device and started screaming at the top of her lungs I tried to console her without taking her out while I finished placing my items on the counter but she just wanted out so I hurried and people were looking and one person behind me commented that I just should leave and come back when my child could behave mind you she is 4 months old not 4 years old and she dose this no matter what. Don't worry what other people say or think you are a good mother and no one can be perfect mommy

well yea once エ was walking down the street and エ had my neice on my right side of the street and this lady started screaming at МΣ because according to her she could get hit by a car エ mean エ would have been aware of that and cautous on which side to have her walk in so エ told her to stFu because the street was closed エ mean how ridiculous is that there were no cars near and the street was closed
エ mean people are people they find a chance to be someone elses critic when they can
its just a thing on pointing out the wrongs in others as if they didn't make mistakes
And Y☆U shouldn't feel like a horrible mother bc of that it was an accident and you weren't aware of that
As for the lady it was so unnessesary to scream she should have just came up to and told Y☆U in a normal tone instead of spazing out as if she had any clue what the situation was

You're human, what can she expect? If you did it on purpose, that's one thing, but how were you going to know? What she should have done was taken you aside quietly and whispered for you to look at his leg instead of making a scene. The woman was very disrespectful. Things like this happen all the time and something like that isn't really that significant. Now if you started driving away and forgot to buckle your baby's seat belt and someone yelled at you for that, now that's a different story. But for accidentally tying it too tight on your baby's leg? Don't worry about it.

When I think of the word 'crunchy', I think of 'granola', then I think of 'healthy', and environmentally friendly...LOL =)
So I'm thinking along the right lines..
And anyway, regarding the woman...she was out of line. Maybe it's normal in her culture to do that. I know in my culture, it's a normal thing for women to call each other fat, it's so stupid. Even if the woman calling someone fat is fat herself, she acts like she has authority to say something. Maybe some people feel they are responsible for other kids or something. I don't know. Then again, the world is full of weirdos.
You did nothing wrong...my daughter hates wearing shoes. She always takes them off. And I hate when people ask me why she isn't wearing shoes. I don't know. It irks me.

I've had many glares because I look so young. But if I go out in public without my husband, people look at me with a disgusted look like "look there goes another single, teen mom" I look like I'm 12 seriously, I hate it! (I have no problems with teen moms, it's just the look these people give me) But it makes me so mad. One time at Wal Mart I put my daughter in the cart and the buckle was broke. She was sitting still and I was standing right next to the cart looking for some stuff on the shelf, and this lady yells at me about her being unbuckled because she started trying to climb out. It embarrassed me because she looked at me with this crazy expression. I turned red in the face. And as she was walking away I heard her murmur to her daughter something about "some mom's just don't pay attention" Ugh!!
Another thing that gets glares is in the terrible two stages when they throw themselves on the floor in the middle of Chuck E Cheese because they aren't ready to leave. Oh man!! That really gets some comments from people in public!!

Damn, I'm sorry! That woman embarrassed you for no reason. Don't get down on yourself, Ethel is right, he would have let you know when it started to bother him.
My mom embarrassed me in public once, well, I kind of did it to myself.
I used to use a Peanut Shell sling until my daughter got too heavy for it, I'd carry her in a kangaroo carry (the same as the lotus hold for the Moby). One time I was out shopping with my mother and my she had mentioned that my daughter looked too squished in there so I should take her out. I ignored her and went about my business when some older lady came up and said essentially the same thing and tried to take her out! So I swung around real fast, scared my daughter so she started to cry and my mom starts yelling "See?! I was right, she hates it!" Everyone was looking and I got upset and told my mom to back off and she stomped away. Couldn't win.

It was 89 degrees outside, and my baby was just wearing a diaper. I stopped into a mcdonald's to get one of those orange drinks, I had a huge craving! Anyway, this old woman in the place was telling me that I needed to put some clothes on that baby. She went on and on about. She was saying, "babies catch colds so easily." I just smiled and nodded.
Also, when I'm at my grandma's house, she says small things that indicate that I'm a bad mother. Ugh!

UGHHHH!! I'm sorry she was such a psycho about it! Obviously he would have cried had it gone on longer and hurt him. There was no need for her to be so hysterical. *eye roll*
I have never been yelled at like that, no. The worst was just the old nosy ladies in Puerto Rico (where we lived when Sophie was really tiny) who would come up clucking at me for not putting socks on her even though it was pushing 95 degrees, or fretting about me babywearing her.....blahhhh. It was just irritating. But yeah, never had anyone freak out on me THAT badly!
HUGS, and if anyone ever flips out again, just walk away. No need to feed their weirdness.

No, no one has. But once a co-worker from my past spanked her kids in public and someone commented on that. She thought it inappropriate for anyone to comment on how she chose to discipline her kids and asked the lady, "Do you pay for these children's bills? Are you the parent?" and the person backed off.
I think that lady in your story was a real ***** and should have been put in her place. I mean, thanks for noticing your son's leg but keep your tone civilized, it's making you look like a freak.
