Canadian Military Housing Regulations?

Last year there were quite a few responses to a question regarding the legality of an enlisted female moving her brother into military housing. The consensus was that this was against regulations.

The answers were obviously relevant to the US Military, however, can someone advise if this is the same with Canadian Military regulations? A close friend plans to move his girlfriend into Military Housing in Canada, and she is an American national. He says she can live with him and only return to the States just once every 6 months to check in, then she is free to return. My feeling is that both of them are ignorant on both Military and Immigration regulations.

The first post is correct. Base housing (PMQ's) is off of the secure locations of the base. Members who rent PMQ's are free to have guests come and go as they please. It's very different than the American military, where they have their housing paid by the military. PMQ's are just rented homes on the base. The rent is paid by the soldier renting the home.

The only time it would not be allowed is if he is posted somewhere where he is living in barracks. My husband was in tech school when we started dating and he lived in the barracks. So he was not allowed to have guests in the building. When I would drive up to visit him on the base, we would have to rent a room for a weekend to see each other because not only was he not allowed guests in the barracks, but it was a "male only" building and I was not allowed in the building as a female. If he is living in the barracks, then he is not allowed his female guest.

If your friend is in PMQs (private married quarters), there is no regulation against him having a guest, which the girlfriend would be considered since she is a visitor to Canada. PMQs are not located on the secure area of the base; any civilian can walk through these neighbourhoods.

Your friend's girlfriend is allowed to stay in Canada for up to six months before needing to leave. There will likely be a waiting period before she can return back to Canada.

All but the magazine limits at the manufacture and sale of said magazines would be entirely unenforceable (the police in this nation cannot search ones home or place of business without a warrant). The magazine issue would be very expensive in its enforcement even simply as to manufacture and sales. Magazines are manufactured by MANY companies, most of which are not gun manufacturers, and would require the ATF to treat magazines as controlled elements (which would be very costly to enforce being they are simply plastic molds). California for example has laws limiting a magazine to 10 rounds...BUT if you personally inquire of people owning magazine fed weapons they will virtually all own magazines that feed more than 10 rounds (even if they do not use them publicly). There are tens of millions of supposed "assault rifles" already in the hands of the public, and hundreds of millions of 30 round magazines out there (even if all else was undertaken by the ATF to limit it as you suggested).
