Bleeding while on progesterone????? why?

I was diagnosed PCOS in dec 03. In June 06 I had a baby. Since she was born, I never stopped bleeding. the drs put me on birth control and it finally haulted. My husband and I decided we want another baby. SO the dr said to stop taking my pills after i finish the pack. My period came, and I continued bleeding. I bleed for about 10 days, stop for about 4, then go for another 10 days, stop for 4 and so on. My gyno screened my for endometrial cancer - it came back normal. And she started me on progesterone for 10 days. Im on day 9 and my bleeding has STILL NOT STOPPED. She said she doesnt know why. So shes giving me another 10 day supply of progesterone by a different brand. What in the world is this? Does anyone have anything they can input? I go back this coming friday for a check up. I just dont know whats wrong with my body. Why cant I quit bleeding??? Anyone have anything? Any ideas? Anything? please....? :(

I guess someone will ask, so I'll answer it now. Im 25 years old, weigh 120, eat healthy and am 5'2" tall. Someone always asks, so Im just saying it.

There is clearly hormonal imbalance (which happens with PCOS or after stop taking the birth control pills). Same thing happened with my wife and she was later diagnosed with PCOS (she was bleeding for 3 months).

The progesterone does usually work (which brand? Provera?). Is the dosage high enough? The bleeding should have become a little less with progesterone (wouldn't stop it and thats fine). After you stop using progesterone tomorrow (day 10), the bleeding will actually get heavier (like a period) which is what you want to see (period being induced) and hopefully all of the lining is shed. You will continue to have this period for 4-10 days after u have stopped progesterone, but after that, the bleeding should stop. The first round of progeseterone (provera) worked for my wife. After provera, her period was induced (heavy) and bleeding stopped a few days after that.

If it doesn't work, need to do it again with higher dosage (or different brand, try Provera). Last option is getting back on birth control which isn't ideal if you want to try for another baby.

Given PCOS, you should get doctor to give you metformin right away. That will significantly help balance your hormone (by managing insulin levels) and regulate your period. It may even help with stopping the bleeding (though progesterone will be quicker). Take metformin if you are planning to TTC (it worked for my wife and her cycles normalized with it).

    Good luck.
