I've been working out, but I haven't been losing weight?

For the last five weeks, I've been jogging and changing my lifestyle, but for some reason, I haven't been losing weight.

I used to eat a TON of oily and fatty stuff, but I've limited myself to three meals a day, each meal fitting a medium-sized container (enough to fit a cup of cooked rice and a few greens along with a few pieces of meat). I've set aside a specific time each day for lunch and dinner, and I usually follow the pattern. Usually in the morning, I'd eat either eggs or oatmeal. I began to eat fresh fruits and vegetables every day. In the past, my usually daily intake included almost no fruits or vegetables. Now, my daily caloric intake is down to around 1500 calories, a significant difference, but my weight is still the same.

I also began to sleep properly and exercise. It's the summer, so I'm not as busy as I would be the other months, since I have school. Before, I'd have weird sleeping patterns and pull many all-nighters, then drink some heavily-sugared coffee before rushing out the door for school. Now, I have a regular sleep schedule of around 7-8 hours a day. I also wake up early to jog between 1~3 miles a day. The past week, I even visited the gym every day for the past week, doing an hour of cardio, then on the machines that help tone different areas on the body for the next hour. I spend the last half-hour swimming.

My waist looks a little smaller than before. I measured, and I've lost around an inch or so, only. I step on my scale every day, hoping that my weight will somehow be lighter. Every morning's a disappointment. I haven't lost a single pound this summer.

And I haven't been losing weight, and all my body parts still feel fat.

I'm not one of those super skinny people who wonder why they can't lose anymore weight when they work themselves to death. I weigh 145, and I'm 5'4.5". I have a lot of excess flab on my stomach and thighs, and the last time I measured (last October) I had a pretty high percentage of fat in my body.

Anyone have any clue why and what I can do?

Thanks, ahead of time!

    Hello There,

You said it right the first time. You've lost an inch off your waist, one of the hardest places to actually burn fat! So you haven't seen the scale go down. Don't fret. With your routine you sound like you're toning your muscles AND burning fat at the same time making it difficult to see any pounds drop, but the biggest difference should be in how you feel, and how your clothes fit. Scales can't tell you the full story, unless you're able to chart your body fat percentage. (Which you might want to go again since it was last done in October)

You're doing well by exercising and changing to a balanced diet. Keep that up as it is an essential part of weight loss.

You mentioned coffee as a quick way to get up and going. When school starts you may want to consider a different option/brand.

I don't know if this will help you obtain the goals you are looking to reach, but it's had a great track record. Skinny Coffee has been proven to be fat burning and is certified low glycemic by the GRI (an essential key in proper diet plans). Some of the reports have come in saying their customers have seen results on their preexisting weight conditions such as hypothyroidism and even diabetics are finding great results in regards to the lowering of their blood sugar levels. This might be an option worth looking into if you are trying to lose weight and need a healthy option to help boost what you're already doing.

Regardless, if you're looking to manage your weight and are unable to switch your coffee brand or would rather not give up your morning fling with your coffee cup it is suggested first to use low glycemic and non-cephalic sweeteners and creamers to give you a healthier cup altogether that will help aid in weight loss. Any artificial sweetener will work against your diet, whether it's zero carb or not.

Hope this helps and we wish you the best.

    Warmest Regards,

    Authentically A.

Technically, you cannot be anorexic without knowing it, but you can still be suffering from an eating disorder. I think the main thing you need to think about is what you are eating. So far, you aren't TOO much underweight, and lifting weights is definitely healthy. As long as you are eating at least 1,200-1,500 [at least!] calories a day, you are probably fine. Just to be sure, here are the four basic criteria for the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa, according to the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition: 1. The refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for age and height. Body weight less than 85% of the expected weight is considered minimal. 2. An intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, even though the person is underweight. 3. Self-perception that is grossly distorted and weight loss that is not acknowledged. 4. In women who have already begun their menstrual cycle, at least three consecutive periods are missed (amenorrhea), or menstrual periods occur only after a hormone is administered. There is more, but if you do not have those four, you are NOT anorexic [and it definitely sounds as though you don't have at least most of those]. If you suffer from a few of them, however, you might be suffering from EDNOS - Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified - which can be just, if not more dangerous. If you think you have any eating disorder, go to a doctor. Hope I was some help!

This is a complicated question for a non-medical professional to answer. Everyone's body is different, and everyone's metabolism is different and reacts differently to different exercising programs.

One thing I noticed is that you said you have 3 meals a day. In order to effectively burn calories, you need to keep your metabolism going. Prepare small bags of healthy snacks such as fruits, nuts, or vegetables and eat them throughout the day. 6 small meals are better than 3 medium ones. This keeps your metabolism working and burning fat.

Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water to help your body purify itself and stay hydrated. Weighing yourself everyday is not healthy, as weight fluctuates depending on many different factors. The time of day you weigh yourself, as well as how much liquid you are drinking, how many times you've used the bathroom, all can affect your weight. Try weighing yourself once a week. It's hard to wait, but the results will be more significant.

Water weight is also an important consideration. Your body tends to store water and fat when it thinks you're running low on food. If you used to eat a lot, and then started eating very little, it will take your body a while to get used to this behavior. At first it will store more fat, thinking that it is running out of food. After a while it will burn more fat than before. Also, if your foods are high in sodium, this will also cause you to retain more water in your body.

You can also be gaining muscle. If you lived a more seditary lifestyle before, and you're jogging 1-3 miles a day, you may be gaining leg muscle, and becoming leaner. Since muscle weighs more than fat, you're going to weigh the same, even if you're losing fat. Are you eating enough fiber? While dieting it's important to eat fiber to maintain using the bathroom (number 2) so that the weight you're jogging off is actually being removed from your body.

Final advice: it's more important how you feel and look than how much you weigh. Do you feel better about yourself? Are you jogging more easily? Farther or faster without running out of breath? That's what's important. If your clothes fit better, and you feel healthier, that's what really matters. The curves will melt down eventually. Dieting and eating healthy is a lifestyle, and right now, after 5 weeks, as long as you feel better and healthier, it sounds like you're making excellent progress.

This is all the advice I can give, for anything more, I suggest seeking a doctor's professional opinion and thorough examination. Good luck and take care!

I say it just all depends on your body type. No two bodies work the same when it comes to dieting and losing weight. It may sound a little hard, but maybe working out even harder and even more often than you already are is all I can think of. Try doing a LOT of crunches...like, for example, I do 200-300 before bed every night and it works, just give some time for the results. The more you do things like crunches, push ups, etc., the easier it'll be to lose the pounds and inches. Also, try taking a pilates class! That REALLY will help out!

I don't know if this would help you at all. But what I did to lose my weight was I went on the Special K diet. I ate special k for breakfast, lunch, with a fruit, then at dinner i had a small chicken breast with veggies. Then I exercised for a hour a day. That's all I did and lost 30 lbs in 2 months. I would say change your exercise routine every 3 months and eating habits.

FACT: men lose weight faster then women.

FANTASY: The faster way to lose weight for women is either going on a diet(eating less) or just eating healthy.

What to do: Eat healthy make sure that threre is less sodium in the foods in you eat. if you like beans then try black beans. exersize i would say jog 10miles each day for three weeks a watch as your body starts to change into the perfect shape. drink more water and don't have too much sugar (BAD). If its still not working tell your doctor and see what hes says about it.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

    1) your eating 3 big meals a day while you should be eating 3 snacks in between meals to make metabolism faster

#2) you need to give your body a rest, I find that its when my body rests from all the strenuous work is when the weight starts to shed

    #3) good luck

edit: All those people telling you to "work harder", its not your dieting/exercise thats the problem

Also, all those people saying "muscles weighs more than fat", shes a woman and women have 10x less testosterone than men, making it sooo hard for her to bulk up. Also, it takes a hell of a lot of time to gain even 1 pound of muscle.

did you know that muscle weighs more than fat?

so maybe cuz youve been losing the fat, but gaining more muscle, and it might just be evening out. so dont look at the scale, and look at the results. it only matters how you feel also.

im sure youfeel like you have more energy.

so just keep up the proper diet and patterns. also try doing maybe 2 reps of 25 sit ups every night just befor eyou go to bed and when you wake up. and add on the sit ups. itll trim that waist in no time :)

    DONT GIVE UP!!
