Am thinking of moving flat to Victoria Park, Hackney. What do you think of this area?

Is it a nice place to live? I need to move from west london back to east london for family reasons. I like arty areas with lots going on - markets, antiques, art classes, performance, theatre, caffs etc. Victoria Park looks like it provides these (tho' not close to any tube stations). Anyone who lives there, what do you think? Would you recommend it?

Hackney has a bad reputation for violence and crime along with other towns like Peckham, Brixton and Stretham. I live reasonably near Hackney, in general it is fine during the day, but at night it can be quite dangerous if you appear new to the area or lost. It's not particularly safe to travel at night on your own there, so you might find yourself taking a few taxis and driving rather than public transport! However having said all that, Hackney is improving, it was very bad 10 years ago or so, but is now geting far better.

you need to take a look at a site/area online called UP MY STREET

It lets you put in a postcode and it will give you all sorts of details about the area and the people who live there, the crime rates etc.,

All sorts of other stuff too.

Google earth upload/download will let you 'virtually visit' the area and take a peep!!

the closest airport is London city Airport placed interior the borough of Newham and on the ingredient of the Docklands. even with the undeniable fact that this airport will basically fly short distances and does not fly to places like the u . s . or everywhere exterior Europe. For long haul flights Gatwick is the suitable airport and it has relatively sturdy transport hyperlinks, so is easy to get to.

If you have family in the area they will be able to advise you better than any one.

If it is a saving money project and you are just saying 'for family reasons' then perhaps you should consider, If it is cheaper to rent a place there. Why is it cheaper?
