My daughter is in college and she loves the shirt hangers that have 5 connected together. Each shirt is hung gradually lower than the one before it. We bought them at Ross for 5 or 6 bucks. She also uses the same style with her skirts and the slack one holds about 6 pairs of jeans. Works great for her little closet at school.

If you can, try storing seasonal items at mom and dad's. Leave lighter stuff at home during the winter and bring the sweaters and coats back out in the spring. It's always a good idea to have a small shelf in your closet too, maybe underneath the things that hang only halfway down. I have a shoe organizer that also has netting down the side to put things in such as lotion or hair accessories, I got it from Lowe's. You could also use shoeboxes at the bottom of your closet. Be sure to fold all that you can, such as t-shirts, and jammies, because folding neatly takes up less room and gives breathing space to the clothes you want to keep nice in your closet! Hope these tips were helpful! :D

I also have very small closets in my house, and I hung another clothes rod near the ceiling of the closet so there is double the hanging space. You can only get to the top rod with a stool, but it is great for storing seasonal items. You can buy a dowel and holders for the ends at Home Depot or Lowes for a total of 8 bucks or so. If you have concrete block walls in your dorm, you might have to get special screws that can drill into concrete.
