Being "Too Popular" is not a logical reason but that's only my opinion and here it goes...

Basically Hulk Hogan is the more overrated of the two, if not the MOST overrated "wrestler" in the business. I cannot deny the fact that he was the most popular wrestler who brought wrestling to the mainstream in the 80's but the fact that he was portrayed as a "superman" was actually cool back then. But as Hulk Hogan grew older and even more popular so did his ego. He won a lot more Wrestlemanias and a lot more PPV's and a lot more championships but was never a great champion. He was an overrated person who was shown to have "super human" abilities and basically became a backstage politic who would refuse to put over wrestlers like Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Hogan was in a lot more merchandise than Cena and the fact that Hogan had a reality show which was sort of trashy and the fact that Hogan had a lot of products with his face on it that seems like "selling-out" proves he was "overrated". He had a freaking grill for crying out loud! He was praised for having a great hype but he was never praised for having great matches. Heck, even Cena had a "match of the year" under his belt which is a lot more entertaining than Hogan can ever give.

Cena was overrated but only because WWE made him overrated. Face it, you can say what you want about Cena but he plays fair. Loses when he is told to lose, and does not engage in backstage politics like Hogan. Cena had a lot of "popularity" as you claim but he deserved it. Cena never left WWE for a reality show. He would never jump-ship to another promotion nor would he seel out his fans in any other way. Between the two people you listed...Hogan is the king of selling out and the king of overrated wrestlers as far as I'm concerned.

    Cena.

Hogan could at least entertain on the microphone with a wide-appealing gimmick. Cena's gimmick is at best, polarizing, because a whole lot of people do not buy into or like the whole "wannabe whiteboy rapper from Massachussetts"

Not to mention that for all the hate Hogan has inspired over the years, he is THE MOST famous and popular wrestler in the history of wrestling ever. "Hulk Hogan" is a name synonymous with wrestling in the mainstream. I sincerely doubt someone from Azerbaijan or Hong Kong or Kenya or Chile would be able to name to you Ric Flair or John Cena or Stone Cold Steve Austin over Hulk Hogan.

Hogan's popularity and marketing was a spark of genius, and his mainstream attention is unmatched by anyone today.

John Cena releases a poorly-selling rap album and stars in two awful movies that barely get any attention.

I'd pick Cena, he doesn't have as much charisma as Hogan had, and also, Hogan put pro wrestling on the map, others before him made it great, but Hogan popularized it, Cena, well... he sold tickets lol
